Meeting Him July 15, 2000
by Naomi Perez
On Saturday, July 15, 2000, I went to the Summer Sanitarium concert in
Los Angeles that included a performance by KoRn. Well, they put on a damn
good show. After their set, they went off stage and my cousin and I thought,
"F**k Metallica, let's look for Jonathan Davis." So we waited outside the
backstage for about thirty minutes. Then out of nowhere, a golf cart
carrying the entire band whizzed right past me. Jonathan Davis was five feet
away from me!! I was in such shock that I just stood there. My cousin
grabbed me by the arm and literally dragged me along as we (and 18 other
people) chased the cart. Well, we were stopped by some staff members as KoRn
hopped on their tour bus. My cousin and I just stood there watching them.
We waved to Jonathan (and we were the only ones waving) and he waved back.
Totally cool. Then for the next fifteen minutes my cousin and I stood out
there staring. I was blowing kisses in Jon's direction and my cousin was
crying. (She was kinda pissed at first) Other people were just yelling
slurs. Then Jonathan came out and walked toward me and my cousin!! He was
carrying a sharpie so I pulled out one of my KoRn CDs from my purse. He
stood right in front of me (and I realized, he's not as tall as I thought he
was. He was about as tall as me [I'm 5'9"], maybe an inch taller.) He signed
my cousin's KoRn ragdoll and my CD. For some reason I said, "I love you
Jonathan" and he said "I love you too." Of course, he probably says this to
all his fans but the fact is, he heard me say it and he responded. He
autographed for two other people then went into his limo and drove off.
Imagine that, out of twenty people he chose to give his autograph to me, my
cousin and two other people. That has got to say something. I was so
intrigued by the whole experience that the next morning I purchased a ticket
to see KoRn next month in San Diego. I just can't get enough of Jonathan.
Hopefully, I'll be able to make it backstage to actually talk with him.
However, I don't know how to go about doing it. If you have any advice, give
me an e-mail.
