Odin in Norse Mythology was the cheif god. He was known as Allfather, Odin, Woden, and other names. He was one of the first gods and slew the Giant Ymir with his two brothers. He always wore his gold helmet and carried with him his spear Gungnir. Gungnir wasn't an ordinary spear though. Odin also would choose Valkyries. Valkyries were women who would choose slain warriors to bring to Valhalla, hall of fallen warriors. in Valhalla, the men could fight all day and never be hurt. They were also served mead, a sweet alcoholic drink, constantly by the Valkyries. Odin would also join them every night in Valhalla. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Odin was also the founder of the runes. he hung himself upside-down in sacrifice to himself for 7 days and 7 nights on the World Tree. He then started noticing patterns in the falling twigs. He scooped them up, and proclaimed them magical. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
