Runes
Runes are what the Vikings used to write with, and was used in divination, or the telling of the future. They are divided in 3 divisions, called Aetts. Together, these divisions are called the Aettr. In each Aett, there are 8 runes for a total of 24.
First Aett
Fehu- traditionally, this rune meant Posessions, and it's sub-meanings are Cattle, goods, and vital community wealth.
Uruz- This meant Strength, and also meant sacrificial animals, and the Aurochs (bos primigenius) which is a species of wild oxen.
Thurisaz- This meant a Gateway, and also meant Giant, demon, a thorn, and the norse God Thor, who you will learn about later.
Ansuz- Ansuz meant Signals, and also represented Loki who you will also learn about later, mouth (source of divine utterances), and river mouth.
Raidho- Raidho meant Journey. it also meant riding, carriage, refers to the soul after death and it's also a journey charm.
Kano- Kano meant Opening and also meant torch and skiff.
Gebo- Gebo meant Partnership and also meant a gift and offerings from the gods or cheiftains to loyal followers.
Wunjo- Wunjo meant Joy and also meant the abscense of suffering and sorrow.
