Foley Special Ref @ Indie Show in Florida
Steve and Scott Armstrong put on a local event last night in Gulf Breeze, Florida at the Rec. Center to benefit the Sacred Heart Diabetis Foundation. Mick Foley was there as a special guest referee for the main event pitting Steve and Scott Armstrong against former WWF worker Randy Steele and a local guy(sorry, I forgot his name). The event also saw Bob Armstrong under the green mask giving Mad Dog Sawyer a good old fashioned ass kicking. Lord Humongous was also at the show. Him and his partner beat 2 young guys, one clad in ICP makeup, and the other a identical to Duane Gill.
Before and after the show yours truly got the chance to speak with the Amrstrong Brothers as well as Mick Foley. These three guys are the most kindest people you could ever meet. If you have ever met them you can attest to that. I didn't talk much wrestling with Steve, mostly just about the area and other stuff. Steve was kind enough to let me bring my camcoder in and film the whole event.
Scott on the other hand I talked with a great bit. I asked him what he thought about the situation with Bischoff gone and Bill Busch now in charge. The first thing that popped out of his mouth was morale. I wasn't suprised he said that. He said the morale in the locker room is at a all time high. He was putting Benoit over big time and talked about his match with Sting on Nitro a few weeks ago. He said Benoit is the best talent in the business right now and he thinks that if Benoit was 6'6 tall, that he would be a main eventer. He mentioned that Ric Flair needs to pass the torch. My conversation with Scott left me with a new-found respect for him. He don't care if he loses or not, he's just there to do his job and do what he is told. Too bad everybody in the wrestling business can't have the same attitude as he does. Kudos to Scott Armstrong.
Ahhhhh. Mick Foley. Ever since I found out that he lived in the area it has been my dream of meeting him, (people who are close to me on the internet know this) and it finally happened! I had a real LONG conversation with Mick Foley. One noteworthy thing I asked him was, how come he was not in the UK for Rebellion. He told me the original plan was for him to fight Shane McMahon there but ever since they turned Shane good they scrapped the match, and it wouldn't have made sense for Shane to be a bad guy in this match. If things work out, look for me to start bringing you more exclusive news from Foley in the future.
Notes by Jozie:
Since Calvin did such a nice job writing this up I didn't bother to reinvent the wheel. Not only was I incredibly blessed to land in the home of so many fabulous wrestlers but the lord of webmasters was there too. :-) Is Jozie a lucky girl or what! :-)
I would like to add a couple notes to the above about the show. First, my favorite match was the hardcore match. Quite unfortunately I don't know the names of either of the wrestlers, but I was very impressed with the show they put on. These boys went all out and we were all the luckier for it.
Secondly, the talent and skill within the ring was far better than I had expected. It was quite evident the school(s) these boys came out of were of substanial quality. Those are my add-ons and notes. I'll be sure to let you know of any other local stuff in this area. It's worthy!
Thirdly, earlier in the afternoon Jr. and I were at the gym working out when this quite large burly man pulls up on an breath-taking Harley. He was bald with a beard as long as his head was high. He came in and started working out. After we left I said to Jr. "Wow. He seemed kinda wild, huh?" She thought he seemed "Mellow". *lol* Kids! Well, ends up he was one of the wrestlers! "Boomer"! Definately a crowd favorite!
Yes, Jozie landed in heaven. :-)
PS. The person Foley was waving to was me. :-) Jozie=Happy Camper :-) This was not a pic I took, so I thank Calvin for capturing the memory. :-)
