Wake Unto Me
by Amethyst
Part 4
Slender fingers traced the outline of the
name engraved in the smooth marble. One shaky hand clutched a small
bouquet of wildflowers. Dark eyes filled with tears that threatened to
spill at any moment. The hand tracing the name was brought to lips, a
kiss placed upon the fingers, then tenderly placed on the marble.
"It's hard, you know. It is SO hard to wake up each day and know that I will never see your smiling face, won't hear your laugh. I don't sleep anymore because I can't bear the thought of not waking up with you there, arms wrapped around me, snoring slightly. You did snore, I don't care what you say." A choked sob. "Said. You always did like to be contrary, you know. But I love you. I will always love you." A pause for a shaky breath. "It's hard for the others. Yoshiki is practically forcing Shinya to eat. He's gotten so depressed. "What am I supposed to do without you? The band is practically nonexistent now. We haven't 'officially' disbanded, but everyone knows it's just a matter of sitting down with the hotshots at the label and signing a bunch of useless shit. Not that I really care. I would throw away all of our fame, our money, everything, if I thought I could bring you back. What I wouldn't give to see you smile at me and pull on my sleeve while we shop. Or to listen to you quietly hum to the radio in the car. Or watch you try to cook ramen. I miss you. I love you......" Another strangled sob. "...naze...?" A large, warm hand falls onto the shaking shoulders. Strong, if slightly trembling, arms wrap around the smaller form. Die whispers soothing little nothings as he pulls Toshiya to him. The bassist turns and sobs into his friend's shirt. Die rubs the slender man's back gently while his own haunted eyes study the marble. "Niimura 'Kyo' Tooru" is engraved in the cold stone, unemotional and unfeeling but reducing the man in his arms to an emotional, crying mass. Toshiya sniffles and pulls away, looking at Die with bloodshot eyes. "Let's go see Kaoru now, huh?" he whispers, voice raw from crying. Die nods and stands. He pulls Toshiya to his feet and the two walk off. As they move, Toshiya grabs Die's trembling hand and laces their fingers together. Soon they are nothing more than shadows walking into the bright afternoon sunlight. Cherry blossoms swirl around the quiet grave, and almost, almost, a quiet, familiar, warm laugh is heard. ***
