Part 1
Yoshihito Wayama, better known as Jiro to his close friends, looked
up at the pearl white building, shuddering from the thought of having to
enter it. He hated these sort of places, the smell and the attitude of
the people that worked there really got to him. He heaved a long sigh
and walked towards the escalator, where it would definitely bring him to
his doom.
His friend, Shinya, had recommended him the place, saying that the
people there were quite nice to him and that they were different from the
rest. Jiro thought otherwise, though. All of these people were the
same, none were different. Shinya just wanted to make him feel better, that
was all. To Shinya, everyone was nice. The escalator ride seemed too
short as he found himself on the first floor of the building, the entry
door just a few feet away from him.
He raised his hand to his cheek; time to see the dreaded dentist.
**
" Doctor, your patient is here." The nurse called into the
appointment room.
" Haii haii! Bring him in!" He called out, still busying himself over
the files on his table.
Jiro walked in, his face had paled as he entered the room. The smell
of the place was no different then all the other clinics in town...,
what did Shinya mean when he said that the place was 'special'?
The doctor looked up then and smiled upon seeing him.
Jiro took in a deep breath as he suddenly saw what Shinya found so
special about the place. The doctor was gorgeous!
" Hello," the doctor greeted him, his smile still etched on his
handsome face, " I'm Doctor Teruhiko Kobashi. And you are...??"
" Jiro." He said spontaneosly before clearing his throat and
correcting himself, " Yoshihito Wayama desu. My friend, Terachi Shinya told me
about your clinic."
' And he should've told me about *you*.' Jiro thought to himself,
returning the doctor's smile.
" Ahh... Shinya..," the doctor smiled, recognition in his eyes, " He
was a wonderful patient. Wonderful teeth."
Jiro chuckled politely, not knowing what else to say. There was a
silence where the doctor kept on smiling at him and Jiro was just standing
by the doorway. In the end, the blonde-haired patient grew
uncomfortable and decided to break the silence.
" So.. uh.., doctor.."
" Teru." His eyes twinkled as he stood up. " Just call me Teru."
" Ah.. Teru..," Jiro felt his cheeks grew warm when he spoke the
doctor's name.
" Yes, well, let's get started! Right here then..."
Teru motioned towards another door connecting with another room and
Jiro walked in grudgingly, feeling his heart drop to his stomach in
fear.
**
A few minutes later, Teru was looking at a paler Jiro with his mouth
wide open at him. Teru smiled at Jiro's pressed eyes, noticing that
despite his calming words, the other was still weary of his check-up.
" Yoshihito, you can open your eyes now."
Jiro blinked. Once his vision cleared and he saw Teru smiling
comfortingly at him, he got up, rather shakily though. He remained seated,
wanting to know why his back tooth had been aching like hell the past few
days. Teru saw that Jiro was waiting for him to speak and took off his
gloves, giving his patient another smile.
" It's nothing to be worried about. You probably ate some sweets you
weren't supposed to...I cleaned up the area, so it shouldn't hurt
anymore. But if it does, come back, I don't want it to develop into a
plaque."
" Oh." Jiro breathed out a sigh of relief.
Teru eyed Jiro for a few seconds then smiled charmingly,
" Come to Bali with me."
" Ek..?!"
Jiro snapped up, looking at his dentist in disbelief. Did he just
hear, what he thought he heard?
" Come to Bali with me." That same smile was still on Teru's face. "
A friend of mine decided to go on a vacation this summer and he invited
me. Why don't you come along? He told me to bring as many people as I
liked."
" Uhh...,"
He didn't know what to make of this. Stuff like this doesn't happen
ordinarily. When one goes to a dentist, one will get a check-up and a
lollipop, not an offer to go to Bali! Jiro's mind was whirling as he
looked up into deep brown eyes. He let himself take in the doctor's excited
look and knew that he couldn't say 'no'.
Teru, thinking that the boy would need more persuading continued,
" Why don't you bring Shinya along, if you don't want to travel alone
with me."
Jiro's eyes lit up.
He wouldn't mind a vacation in Bali, but going with his dentist that
he just knew and the dentist's friend wasn't very appealing to him, no
matter how charming Teru was. But with Shinya with him, things would be
great! The summer would just be too perfect!
Jiro let a smile creep to his face and Teru took that as a 'yes'. He
leaned in suddenly and embraced the Jiro in his joy.
" Great! I'm so happy you'll be coming!"
Jiro could only nod, awkwardly, since his body had gone into a frozen
state the second Teru's arms circled him.
**
" He invited you to WHERE??"
" Bali." Jiro said again, for the umpteenth time that day. He pushed
more clothes into his bag then turned to Shinya, " Shouldn't you go and
pack too?"
" I'll pack tonight, don't worr-WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I'M COMING???"
Shinya exclaimed.
Jiro turned to his auburn-haired friend, smiling slightly.
" Shinya, I know you wouldn't let me go off on my own if you could
help it."
" Of course! Something's BOUND to HAPPEN if you go off alone... look
what happened with Teru!" Shinya waved his hands around, looking
frantic. " I know he's a bit *friendly* to his patients, but he's never asked
them on a holiday to *Bali* before!"
" That's because his friend didn't have the tickets to Bali then. And
it wasn't summer." Jiro said matter-of-factly.
" Don't you try to be smart with me, Jiro!"
Jiro sighed and turned away from his bag, tugging on Shinya to sit
next to him on his bed. Once his friend was quietly seated, he let his
friend rest his head on his shoulder. They sat like that for awhile, in
silence, only the ticking of the clock filling in the quiet.
" Shin-chan..., come with me to Bali." Jiro said, trying a softer
technique. " I don't know what to do if you didn't come... I've only met
Teru a few hours ago! What kind of intelligent conversation can I have
with a man I've just come to meet?"
Shinya looked up at Jiro, his eyes flashing devilishly.
" I don't think you and Teru would.. *talk* much.. if you were
together.."
Jiro's eyes turned confused but he soon figured out what Shinya was
saying and he threw the nearest pillow at his friend. Shinya laughed,
only half-heartedly trying to shield himself from the pillow attacks.
" Shinya!!!"
Shinya couldn't help but laugh again when Jiro pouted, quite cutely,
looking miserable.
" Aiii.., don't give me that look Jiro," Shinya patted the elder
boy's head fondly, smiling, " Don't worry.. I'll come with you to Bali."
Jiro stood up, all miserableness vanished from his eyes. He jumped
excitedly, making the floor below him creak the slightest bit from his
weight. Shinya shook his head, but continued to smile on at his genki
friend.
" I think you should resume your packing.. before morning comes."
Shinya nodded pointedly at his suitcase.
" Oh!" Jiro immediately turned to his job of packing once more,
feeling happier than before.
**
" Yoshihito!! Over here!"
Shinya and Jiro turned around simultaneously, looking for the source
of the voice. Among the crowds of people in Narita Airport, they saw
the young dentist waving a hand at them; though he didn't look much like
a dentist at the moment. He was sporting a floral tee, baggy shorts,
and a wide straw hat. There was a red-headed man next to him, sporting
the same carefree smile.
Jiro bowed nervously, followed by Shinya.
" You're here!" Teru placed an arm around Jiro's shoulders then
turned to Shinya as he guided the blonde towards their terminal, " Shinya!
It's good to see you again!"
" Likewise." Shinya noded, smiling ruefully at his frozen friend.
Jiro had once again, become totally rigid and looked at Shinya for
help. Once he saw the smile on the other man's face, he knew that he was
on his own. Jiro gave a big sigh and was about to ask Teru to take his
arm off of him when the latter quickly spun him about, turning towards
Shinya and the red-haired man.
" Gomen ne! I've forgotten to introduce you to my friends!" Teru
nodded at the red head, " That's Ando Daisuke, or 'Die' as he prefers it...
Die, this is Shinya and Jiro... "
After the introduction, Teru spun Jiro around again, his arm still on
the younger man's shoulder, walking off towards the direction of the
terminal. Shinya and Die had to run up to catch up with them, as Teru's
legs were practically gliding across the airport's floors, moving
quickly and smoothly. Jiro seemed relaxed a bit, having chatted with Teru as
he was pulled along. Shinya smiled after them and the smile didn't go
unnoticed by Die.
" Teru's like that..., he kinda forgets about everyone else once he
finds someone good-looking." Die said, smiling cheekily.
" Oh, that's good to hear.. especially since I'm the one dragging
behind them."
Shinya rolled his eyes as he continued to try to catch up with the
duo in front of him.
" I don't mean you're not good-looking," Die put in hastily, looking
apologetic, " You're very pretty, with your red hair and green eyes
and..."
" Thanks, you don't need to say more."
Shinya felt his cheeks reddened and stopped the other before he could
put in another compliment. Die noticed the sudden bashfulness of his
companion and his cheeky smiled turned even more cheeky-if that was even
possible, by the way he was smiling.
" No one's ever told you you're beautiful?" Die asked, his tone
suggestive.
" Can you please keep quiet? I'm trying to concentrate on keeping up
with my friend here," Shinya said edgily, picking up pace.
' I don't like the look of this vacation anymore..' he thought
miserably.
**
" Thank you sooooo much for sitting next to me on the plane!" Shinya
said, placing his suitcases on the side of his bed. " I don't know how
much more of Die I can take!"
" Die's not so bad...," Jiro frowned, placing his own suitcases and
the foot of his bed, " Why are you so worked up about him?"
Shinya rolled his eyes and fell back against his bed, sighing
contentedly at the softness.
" If you hadn't been so busy with Teru, you would've noticed
yourself."
Jiro turned red, his brown eyes turning defensive as he got up from
where he sat, towering over Shinya's form. His eyebrows knitted
together, giving the hint that he wasn't so happy at his friend's statement.
" I *wasn't* busy with Teru! He was the one dragging me around.. I
was lucky that I could even sit next to you on the plane! He kept on
following me!" Jiro sputtered, looking pissed. " I wanted to accompany
you.. but.. but.."
Shinya looked up at him, amused.
" You don't know, do you?" Shinya sat up propped on his elbows,
looking at Jiro thoroughly.
" Don't know what?" Jiro didn't like the look the auburn-head was
giving him.
Shinya burst out laughing, hitting his bed repeatedly. Jiro looked
confused; what was he missing? What did Shinya know that he didn't know?
" Shin-chan?"
Jiro small voice cut through Shinya's laughing, making the other man
sit up properly again, looking at his friend in wonder.
" Jiro, you really need to get out more." He shook his head.
" What did you mean just now, Shin-chan?" Jiro pressed, wanting to
know.
Shinya shook his head again, this time a grin forming on his face.
" I'll let you find out for yourself... I wouldn't want to ruin the
fun."
**
Jiro looked up at the night's sky, rendered speechless for a moment
by the tranquility of the night. His gaze wandered towards the moon, a
ghost of a smile appearing on his lips when he felt the cool waters of
the ocean tickling his feet. There was a slight breeze and..
" Jiro! Aren't you coming?" Teru called out.
He turned to Teru, who was holding two glasses of punch, and gave him
a smile, walking over to the other man, careful not to step on any
shells. Jiro ran a hand through his hair, brushing them back as the wind
tried to tease them into covering his eyes again.
" You like the scenery?" Teru asked, once he was walking next to him.
" Mmm..," Jiro nodded, glancing to see where Shinya was.
" Shinya's with Die, don't worry." Teru smiled, nodding towards one
direction.
Jiro saw them both and couldn't help but grin. He didn't understand
why Shinya wouldn't try to be nicer to Die. The man was really sweet;
when he wasn't teasing, anyways.
" So, what do you work as?" Teru asked, attempting a conversation.
" Me?" Jiro blushed. " I work at a computer company..., it's nothing
really.. my life's a complete bore actually."
" It can't be that bad."
" It is." Jiro sighed. " I'm living with my brother right now...
though he's always away.. and when he's home, he's constantly pushing me
into getting a girlfriend."
" Why don't you get one? I don't think it should be hard for someone
as good-looking as you." Teru placed a finger on Jiro's chin, looking
at him with a thoughtful smile.
Jiro blushed and shook his head.
" I don't want to just 'get' one... When I go into a relationship..,
I want it to be special. I don't just want to be with someone for fun."
" Ahh.. I see," Teru nodded, " You're the serious-relationship type
of guy."
He shrugged, " I guess."
" Well, I--," Teru stopped short, looking over Jiro's shoulder, his
eyes widening.
" What's wrong?" Jiro turned around, worried.
A smile broke out on Teru's face.
" Totchi!"
A tall, lanky woman appeared, striding towards them like a model
would on a catwalk. Her short, dark blue hair framed her oval face
perfectly, and she smiled with a confidence Jiro had never seen before. The
slit on her long dress exposed long creamy legs and the sequined top
showed off her shapely body. She smiled brightly at Teru and hurried over,
throwing her arms around him instantly.
Jiro raised an eyebrow and wondered how they came to know each other.
" Teru-chan! It's been so long!"
Jiro's eyes widened when he heard her speak. Her voice was so low!
Was she.. .was she.. ?? But she.. but she.. her body was... NO WAY!
" Totchi..," Teru murmured fondly, still embracing the tall.. person.
He seemed to realize that Jiro was still standing next to him,
staring at the newcomer with an unreadable expression. Teru gently pushed
his friend away, nodding at Jiro.
" Totchi, this is Jiro.. Jiro, this is Totchi." Teru introduced them.
" Totchi?" Jiro raised another eyebrow. He felt something just 'tick'
inside of him at the mention of the name.
The person laughed; a deep laugh at that. Jiro furrowed his eyebrows,
was this a man or a woman??
" My name's Hara Toshimasa.. Toshiya." The person smiled, looking
radiant. " Some people.. like Teru-chan here, calls me Totchi."
" Oh." Jiro turned to Teru. " You're friends, then?"
Teru laughed, though it didn't sound much like one. He looked up at
Toshiya, his eyes filled with a look Jiro couldn't make out as adoration
or admiration.
" I guess you could call us friends." Teru reached a hand out to
Toshiya, holding the person's hand fondly. " Toshiya's a model, he's been
travelling for the past few years so I hadn't seen him for some time
now."
' Oh, so she's a he.' Jiro didn't know why he felt so relieved all of
a sudden.
His relief was suddenly shattered when Toshiya leaned down and kissed
Teru full on the lips. Teru didn't seem to mind as he returned the kiss
briefly before sighing contentedly. He turned to Jiro, an apologetic
look on his face.
" Jiro.. would you mind if I talk with Totchi a bit? We've really got
a lot to catch up on..," Teru turned to the blue-head, again, the look
of adoration/admiration (??) in his eyes.
" Sure." Jiro gulped, not knowing what else to say. He didn't
understand why he felt so hurt but he did. " I think Shinya wouldn't mind my
company anyways.."
Teru nodded.
" Arigatou."
He walked off with Toshiya; the blue head turned towards Jiro, giving
him a wink and a smile;
" It's nice to have met you!"
And then Jiro was alone.
**
" Where's Teru?" Shinya asked, looking disgruntled, but slightly
happier, not alone with Die anymore.
" With this guy named Toshiya." Jiro said, shrugging off-handedly.
Die turned to him, surprised.
" Totchi's back?"
Jiro felt a weird dread filling his stomach. He let his eyes wander
down at the surface of the table, trying to focus on his fingers.
" You know Toshiya?" Jiro asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
" Of course I do! He and Teru had a long relationship before they
broke up since Teru's brother didn't approve and Totchi went off to pursue
his career as a model." Die shook his head. " They didn't have a really
nice break up, I didn't know I would ever see Totchi again.."
' Well.. you *will* see him again..,' Jiro thought, now looking
despaired, ' And they looked rather *nice* from where where I was
standing...'
