Sleeping Forest

By VanillaMint

It seemed like an eternity of darkness has passed before he opened his eyes. When he did, he saw above him the stretch of canopies made of leaves of the tall trees that surrounded him and he could see the sun rays shining through the cracks of the canopy to the leaf-covered earth. Hyde found himself on his back and he lay like that for a while, just absently looking at his new surroundings. It was bright but not sharply so; it was as if he was looking through a wine glass or something.

Eventually he did get up, staggered initially on his bare feet, then wondering why they were bare, why was he shoeless outdoors. His fingers combed through his dark brown hair and then slid down to his neck. His necklace was still on, the crucifix dangling just below his clavicles. He walked with ease, the white cloak that adorned him seemed very light.

He walked aimlessly for a long time. His head fogged, unclear He was clueless as to where he was but there was no fear, no anxiety. It was the kind of feeling you get when you find yourself in an unfamiliar place in a dream. But somewhere inside Hyde, he knew he was not in a dream. He felt as if he was walking in circles for no matter how long he walked, there were the same trees. Yet he was not tired.

As he walked on, he found a man sitting in the midst of the forest. His back was to him but Hyde found the man familiar. He was sitting in front of the canvas. He was painting. But his body blocked the canvas from Hyde’s view.

Hyde took two soundless steps towards the man when he suddenly turned around. Their eyes met but there was no shock, just mild recognition.

" Sakura…" Hyde whispered the name. Before that, he was just a man, although Hyde realized he knew him. But now that he said his name, it seemed to have become real. The man became Sakura.

Sakura smiled. " What are you doing here?" he asked, no malice in his voice, just plain curiousity, or so it seemed to Hyde.

None of them spoke for the few passing seconds but it was not uncomfortable. Hyde tilted his head as if to listen to the whispers of the trees as their leaves rustled together in the wind. Sakura turned back to the canvas.

" You are painting," Hyde said matter-of-factly.

" I come here sometimes…it’s like a different world."

" What are you painting?" Hyde asked, as if Sakura hadn’t spoken at all. He was curious. About everything, but mostly now he just wanted to know what was his friend painting in the middle of the forest.

" Angels…" he said.

Hyde looked over Sakura’s shoulder, first seeing nothing. Then he slowly saw the faint lines of paint and as he looked longer, the picture seemed to become clearer. " I didn’t know you like to paint."

" There’s a lot you don’t know, Hyde…" Sakura set his paintbrush aside and looked up at Hyde from where he was sitting. " So tell me, what are you doing here."

Hyde mused over the question for a moment. " Ah…"

" What are you doing in my sleeping forest? Who allowed you to come here?"

" I woke up here…I can’t remember what I was doing before this," Hyde frowned. " You called me here." It was more of a statement than a suggestion.

A smile played on Sakura’s lips again. Locks of black hair fell over his face when he hung his head down. Hyde moved to sit on the ground next to him.

" It’s been so long since you allowed me in, I almost forgot." Hyde looked at the painting again. It was actually a picture of two angels.

Sakura let one of his hands touch Hyde; the fingers thread through his hair. Hyde’s hair was fine and soft beneath his touch. " I just got scared that you won’t come again."

Hyde pulled his knees up to his chest. The rustling of the leaves sound like a chant. " Then why now?" He didn’t really want to know but he just asked as it was natural. But sometimes Sakura didn’t like it when there were too many questions.

" I guess I did it subconsciously."

The smaller man played with the dead leaves on the ground. Their paper-like crispiness was smooth against his skin. Quietly his head leaned against Sakura’s thigh. He felt the other man’s fingers in his hair, patting his head gently. Like this, he lost track of time. He guessed both of them did because the sleeping forest had no day and no night; it was always like this. It felt eternal.

It was Hyde who got up first. He looked at the canvas and the faint, almost invisible colours on it. Funny sometimes how you saw things just because you knew they were there. He touched the painting. He traced a finger with childlike demeanor along the lines of their wings and their gowns. He liked the surrealism of Sakura’s work and told him so as he kissed him gently on the cheek.

" When was the last time we did this?" Hyde spoke in an almost inaudible whisper, his palms cupping Sakura’s cheeks as he sat down on his lap.

" A long time as you said." Sakura slid an arm around Hyde’s slim waist to prevent him from falling.

" In here, everything seems so far away…almost like a dream that I almost forgot when I wake up."

" The longer you stay here, the more you forget about the outside world. Sometimes I wonder if I will forget that it exists, if my memory totally fades away, and then I know nothing but here and be trapped here forever," Sakura told him.

Hyde laughed. " Now even I am not sure which is real! Everything is like a dream that is slipping away at this moment."

" This feels real. I can touch you, feel you…not an illusion," Sakura grinned.

Hyde kissed those grinning lips and heard the trees whisper softly around them. He nudged Sakura’s lips apart and their tongues met briefly before they pulled away. Sakura held him closer, his hands slid over his back and Hyde could feel their warmth radiating through the material of his cloak.

" Sakura…" he mouthed the name as eager lips nibbled on his neck.

Their bodies locked together as they fell down to the ground. The stool they were previously on toppled down noiselessly. Hyde shifted himself on top of the other man. His white clothes spilled over Sakura’s legs. The cross on his necklace glinted in the light. Hyde tasted Sakura’s lips again, lightly, savouring the slightly salty taste. The ‘real world’ was forgotten by now, merely a dream. The smell of the earth, the hushed whispers of the trees and the texture of their bodies had become as real as anything could be.

Their clothes lay beside them on the ground. Hyde clutched Sakura’s hair and tilted his head so that he can kiss the neck. He was sitting on his abdomen and had one leg on either side. His hair tickled Sakura’s forehead as he looked into his eyes.

" I missed you," Sakura raised himself up and caught Hyde’s lips in a quick kiss. His hands travelled up the silken thighs to the subtle curve of male hips, tracing what he had known and forgotten and relearning. He licked the side of Hyde’s face and nuzzled against the soft dark brown hair that smelled like roses.

Hyde pushed himself down against Sakura’s body, their erection brushing together and sending a ripple of electricity up their nerves. His palms rubbed against Sakura’s muscular chest and felt for the hardened nipples beneath his fingers. He licked them with his tongue and Sakura shivered. Hyde gently bit on one nub as he felt Sakura’s hands cupping the round of his hips. Their breathing gradually became harsh gasps.

" Ahhhnn…!" Hyde moaned as one hand cupped him between his legs, massaging his arousal and his balls in a maddeningly slow rhythm. He kissed Sakura clumsily in his height of senses, his right hand sliding down between their bodies over Sakura’s stomach to the tangle of dark pubic hair. He moved lower and felt the Sakura’s hardness.

" Hyde…"

" Shh…" Hyde kissed Sakura again as he wrapped his hand around him. He spread his legs and pulled himself over Sakura. " I’m going to let you take me…" he whispered into Sakura’s ear, his tongue darting out past his lips into his ear, as he lowered himself onto his stiff erection.

Hyde let out a hiss at the pain, though he had expected it, but Sakura moaned as he felt the tightness sheathing his organ. " Hyde…" He rocked his hips upwards, thrusting into him. Hyde met with each thrust, moving his hips up and down Sakura’s shaft and kissing Sakura. Their pace increased and became more urgent, their lips breaking away from each other’s to moan or to merely breathe. Their bodies tensed as they felt their climax nearing. Their lips locked together as they both came, muffling their cries of orgasm in their kiss.

Hyde laid next to Sakura, his head rested in the crook of his neck. His breath soon returned to normal and he clutched Sakura’s arm in a sated manner. Sakura was looking up at the canopy of green leaves and the rays of the sun fell all around them where the layer of leaves were thin.

After a while they dressed but still lied down on the ground. Hyde rest his head against Sakura’s chest and he could hear the heartbeat that lay underneath. The whispers of the sleeping forest hadn’t ceased but they were very comforting, like a lullaby. It made him never want to leave; he was content here. And somewhat knowing that, he felt scared.

Sakura sensed that in him, the fear that leaked out all of a sudden, and he recoiled him arms from around Hyde. Hyde looked at him in question. Their faces were close, just an inch apart, and Hyde could feel Sakura’s breath as he spoke.

" We should return…"

Hyde nodded and snuggled against Sakura again.

" Close your eyes and sleep…" Sakura whispered soothingly as he kissed the top of his head.

The sleeping forest continued their hushed whispers as Hyde and Sakura went away to another place, knowing in time, they will return.
