Hello Again,
I think fall has arrived at last, it has been a lot cooler here in the Mid-West this week. We received a lot of really good "stuff" this week and it was hard to choose just what to send out. Thanks to all who sent us goodies. The first item this week is a particular favorite of ours and we hope you like it too.

DEATH OF COMMON SENSE

Today we are mourning the passing of an old friend by the name of: Common Sense

Common Sense, AKA - C.S., lived a long life ... but died from heart failure at the brink of the millennium. No one really knows how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes, factories and offices, helping folks get jobs done without fanfare and foolishness. For decades, petty rules, silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no power over C.S. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in out of the rain, working for a living, and life isn't always fair.

C.S. lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the kids).

A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great depression, and the Technological revolution, C.S. survived cultural and educational trends including body piercing, whole language, "new math" and the "it's not MY job" mentality. But his health declined when he became infected with the "It takes a village to raise a child" virus. In recent times his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal regulation.

He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-serving lawyers and "enlightened" government auditors. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented "zero tolerance policies," reports of 6-year-old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing classmate, a teen suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student.

Finally, C.S. lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional sports. He had a very bad time when the nation struggled with the definitions of ..."is" and ..."sexual relations"

As the end neared, C.S. drifted in and out of consciousness, but was kept informed of developments, regarding government regulations for low flow toilets and "smart" guns. Finally, when told that personal integrity didn't matter in U.S. Presidents, he breathed his last. C.S. was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

APOLLO PROJECT

When NASA was preparing for the Apollo project, they did some training on a Navajo Indian reservation.

One day, a Navajo elder and his son were herding sheep and came across the space crew. The old man, who spoke only Navajo, asked a question which his son translated. "What are these guys in the big suits doing?"

A member of the crew said they were practicing for their trip to the moon. The old man got all excited and asked if he could send a message to the moon with the astronauts.

Recognizing a promotional opportunity for the spin-doctors, the NASA folks found a tape recorder. After the old man recorded his message, they asked the son to translate it. He refused.

So the NASA reps brought the tape to the reservation where the rest of the tribe listened and laughed but refused to translate the elder's message to the moon.

Finally, the NASA crew called in an official government translator. He reported that the moon message said, "Watch out for these guys; they have come to steal your land."

WHO AM I? - ANSWER_______________

Born on October 2, 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi--also known as Mahatma Gandhi--helped lead India to independence from Britain. Inspired in part by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, Gandhi's nonviolent tactics were in turn adopted by leaders such as American civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr.
