Summertime
Activities

Before trying any of these experiments, you must have "Shockwave" and "Flash" on your computer.

If you don't have them, you can download both of them for free by clicking here:

Here are Mr. Nolde's top ten activities for the summer:

Tinker Ball -This one will definitely test your abilities in predicting object movement.  See if you can get the ball to successfully go into the cup by using an assortment of objects to create different paths for the ball.

The Space Place Slyder -Do you like putting together puzzles?  If you do, then this activity is for you!  Pictures of Earth's weather can be beautiful and dramatic.  See if  you can solve the puzzle of each image by clicking on the tiles to move them to the blank space (if they are next to one) until the tiles reveal the picture.

Line Rider -See if you can carefully design a sledding track that will allow our sledder to make a successful run down the track.  Be sure not to make your slope too steep!  Have fun and good luck!

The Virtual Kitchen Chemistry Lab-This is a great activity that I've had on the summer activities page for a couple of years now. Be sure to check out the cabbage juice and the cork rocket experiment. As you explore this virtual kitchen and perform online experiments, see if you can solve the puzzle and get a reward!

The Alien Juice Bar Game-Once you get the hang of cabbage juice acid/base lab from the Virtual Kitchen Chemistry Lab, be sure to give this activity a try.

The Great Balloon Race -When we studied matter in 3rd grade, we learned that less dense matter tends to float, while more dense matter tends to sink.  When we studied weather in 5th grade, we learned that hotter air is less dense than colder air.  That's why a hot air balloon rises, once the air in the balloon gets hot enough.  See how good your air balloon flying skills are in this activity.  See if you can beat my personal best score of 2:00 minutes for the "easy" race!

The Balloon Ride Challenge-This activity is not a balloon race, but is a real brain teaser!  See if you can outsmart the computer by being able to cut the last rope and win a free balloon ride!  Just click on the rope to cut it.  You may cut one or two ropes each turn, but you can't skip a turn!  Once you figure out how to win, play this activity against a friend!  Good luck!

More Difficult Activities

Virtual Hip Replacement-Every year the Edheads website just seems to get better and better!  As people are living healthy and ACTIVE lives to a much older age, we are discovering that certain moving parts of the human body tend to suffer from a good amount of wear and tear.  Fortunately, we now have the technology to replace some of these moving parts, such as our hip sockets.  This activity will give you a greater appreciation for what goes into this type of surgery.

Virtual Knee Surgery -Did you realize that there are over 300,000 knee replacement surgeries performed in the United States every year?  As Americans are living longer and are continuing to live very active lives, the need to replace the cartilage and moving parts in our knees has become ever increasing problem.   This activity takes you step-by-step through the rather involved process of replacing a knee from start to finish!  By the way, if you really enjoyed these Edheads activities, be sure to check out the rest of them on their site!

Operation Heart Transplant -Enter the virtual operating room again, where you will be given a scalpel to perform a heart transplant of your own!  This simplified operation in 19 steps will give you a better understanding about how heart transplants are done.  Have no fear. The surgeons by your side will guide your every move and prevent you from making any mistakes!   Click on the beating heart to begin your adventure!
