HOMEMADE PASTE

Bookmakers Paste

1 teaspoon flour
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon powdered alum
3 oz water

Mix dry ingredients.
Add water slowly, stirring out all of the lumps.
Cook over slow heat. (Double boiler works best)
Stir constantly.
Remove from from heat when paste begins to thicken.
It will thicken even more as it cools.
Keep in covered jars. Can be thinned with water.

Library Paste

1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon alum
4 cups water
1/2 teaspoon of oil of cloves

Mix all ingredients in saucepan.
Simmer until clear and thick.
Remove from heat and add oil of cloves.

Homemade Paste

1/2 cup flour
cold water

Add flour to a sauce pan.
Add cold water until thick and creamy.
Simmer on stove for 5 minutes.
Takes a long time to dry.

Clear Paste

3/4 cup rice flour
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 cup cold water
2 1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 teaspoon oil of witnergreen or peppermint

Mix rice flour, sugar, and cold water until smooth.
Add boiling water and bring to a boil over low heat.
Stir constantly until mixture thickens.
Remove from heat and add oil of choice.

Cooked Flour Paste

1 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon powdered alum
1 pint cold water
1 pint flour
1 teaspoon oil of cloves, wintergreen or peppermint

Boil 1 cup of water and add powdered alum.
Mix flour and fold in water until smooth.
Pour gently into boiling alum water.
Cook until it has a bluish cast stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and add oil of cloves or scent of choice.
Keep in airtight jars.

Crepe Paper Paste

2 tablespoons finely cut crepe paper
1/2 tablespoon flour
1/2 tablespoon salt
Water

Mix everthing together with enough water to make a paste.
Stir and squash until smooth.
Store in airtight jars.

Colored Salt Paste

Mix 2 parts salt to 1 part flour.
Add powdered paint and enough water
to make a smooth heavy paste. Store in airtight jars.

Paper Mache Paste

1 cup water
1/4 cup flour
5 cups lightly boiling water

Mix flour and 1 cup water until mix is thin and runny.
Stir into boiling water.
Gently boil and stir for 3 minutes.
Store in airtight jars.
