HALLOWEEN GAMES

The Witch's Brew

Children stand in a circle.
Pretend a large can is the pot of brew, put it in the center.
Use a long ruler or whatever is available to stir the pot.

Pick a child to be the witch in the center stirring the pot.
As the old witch stirs the pot, the group chants:

Group: "There was an old witch stirring her pot."

(Touch two children on head to sneak up to witch on tip toes)

Group: "Two little witches said,"
Two children: "What have you got?"
Witch keeps stiring then says, "BOO!"

First one back to the circle is the next witch.
Make sure everyone gets a turn.

The Witch Rides Tonight!
(Sing to the tune of "Farmer in the Dell")
Place all the children in a circle and walk slowly around
as the verses are sung.

The witch rides tonight,
The witch rides tonight,
Hi, ho the merry oh,
The witch rides tonight!

The witch takes a cat,
The witch takes a cat,
Hi, ho the merry oh,
The witch takes a cat!

The cat takes a bat,
The cat takes a bat,
Hi, ho the merry oh,
The cat takes a bat!

The bat scares the ghost,
The bat scares the ghost,
Hi, ho the merry oh,
The bat scares the ghost!

The ghost dances around,
The ghost dances around,
Hi, ho the merry oh,
The ghost dances around!

The ghost disappears,
The ghost disappears,
Hi, ho the merry oh,
The ghost disappears!

After everyone has had a turn and song is over
ask each creature by name to return to the circle like so:
Witch! Fly back home.
Cat! Leap back home.
Bat! Flap back home.
Ghost! Float back home.

Repeat with other children.

Witch On Halloween
(Another Variation of "Farmer in the Dell")

The witch on Halloween,
The witch on Halloween,
Heigh ho, let's trick or treat,
The witch on Halloween!

Second verse: The witch chooses a goblin,
Third verse: The goblin chooses a bat,
Fourth verse: The bat chooses a cat,
Fifth verse: The cat chooses a ghost,
Sixth verse: The ghost says, "BOO!"
Seventh verse: They all screech and scream.

Increase memory skills by doing it the same as above.
I usually improvise and keep adding creatures until all 18
kids are involved. It's a little harder to remember but lots of fun.

Do The Hookey Spooky
(Variation of Hokey Pokey)

Put you right hand in,
Take your right hand out,
Put your right hand in,
And shake it all about.
Do the Hookey Spooky and everybody shout,
That's what it all about!

Second verse: Put your palm in,
Third verse: Put your elbow in,
Fourth verse: Put your knee in,
Fifth verse: Put your ankle in,
Sixth verse: Put your hip in,
Seventh verse: Put your thigh in, etc...

Great song for teaching body parts.
Remember they need to know all those parts
you normally don't use in the song.
