Background Black- I copied a haunted house out of a coloring book on white posterboard. Staple to the black board. Get some of that halloween webbing and stretch it across top and bottom. Add a round white moon and a plastic spider.
Background Orange- Lay orange piece of butcher paper on art table. Let kids paint with black paint. Carefull! You might want to use shirts instead of smocks. Be sure and add Tide to the powder paint. We use Downey with all the rest.

ART/FINE MOTOR
Make black playdough. Remember this is the one using black tempra powder paint. It will dissolve in 2 or 3 days. Use with black and orange cookie cutters.
Use orange powder paint and mixing jell or medium on table. Let kids finger paint. When they are done press a piece of black construction paper over their spot. Lift off and Wow! A nice picture.
Easel paint with black paint.
Use black construction paper and white chalk to make ghosts.
Have the kids wad up a tissue and place another around it. Tie off head with black yarn for a ghost! Use a black marker for eyes and mouth. Hang around the room or on the tree in science area. Good tying practice.
Make halloween mask with paper plates and markers.
Paint the kids faces with face paint on day nearest to halloween night. I always get the parents permission first.
Fold a piece of black constuction paper. Paint the bottoms of the kids feet white and place on the paper with a date for the parents. Have a foot tub for washing feet. Kids love this.
Practice blowing up white balloons. Good speach exercise. Make sure you get all of the balloons back!
Cut out a bat shape or ghost from thick cardboard. Kids can sponge paint around them.

CIRCLE TIME
Carve a pumpkin! Put golf tees in the eyes, nose and mouth pieces so kids can put the pumpkin puzzle together.
After it's carved let the kids take out the seeds. Wash, add a touch of oil and bake at 200 degrees till crunchy. Eat them!
There are several good books. I like Eric Carle's The Very Busy Spider.
and David Pelham 's Sam's Sandwich.
Show masks and discuss real and pretend. Safety at night. Stay with parents! Take a flashlight...etc...
Let kids make ghoul juice by mixing orange and grape koolaid. It turns real dark.
Start kids telling stories by telling one called The Dark Dark Night. Story can be about anything but keep using the words *dark dark* After kids get use to telling stories ask them if you can tape it for a movie day! They love it! Make some pop-corn for the showing.
Pretend you have a can of masks in front of you. Give all the kids one too. Slowly take out a happy, sad, scary, funny...etc...mask and put them on. The more you ham it up the more they will express themselves.
I made a flannel board story about Winky the Witch. She was scared of the dark. Her black cat and the great pumpkin helped her out. The story changes every time I tell it. Be creative!
