their hands and stick their thumb out. A turkey! Paint
each finger a different color and put hand print on
butcher paper. Let them draw little
legs on their turkey. Put up on board.

Put binoculars
out. Real and toy size.
Add
marbles and sorting trays.
Put a bowl of
feathers on the table. Try to use different sizes.
Add a weight
(tipping) scale and weigh rocks kids find.
Add ears of
dried corn on the table. Indian Corn and Yellow.
Add
miniture pumpkins and gourds.
Discuss the difference in each. One edible, one not, one soft,
one hard, etc...

ART/FINE MOTOR
Brush glue
lightly on a paper plate. Sprinkle with pumpkin spices, cloves and
cinnamon
for a smelly piece of art!
Paint
with feathers!
Let the kids mix
orange and green paint for brown.
Finger
paint
with yellow and red to make orange. Place a long sheet of paper over
a design
they made on the table. Press gently and hang to dry. We use one of
those cheap
little clothes lines that stand up with several lines on them.
Keep a basket of clothes pins
underneath and teach kids how to use them to hang their pictures.
Cut out Large,
Medium and Small leaves from a cardboard box and let kids
trace around them with Orange and Brown markers.
Use people
colored markers and have kids draw themselves.
They have people colored paints also! This is a good time
to stress the world is made of different colors and how boreing
it would be if it were not.
Make necklaces out of macaroni. String on bright yarn
and color with markers. Your 4 and 5 year olds can learn to tie
knotts.
CIRCLE TIME
Read
Best Thanksgiving Book.
I also like
The First Thanksgiving.
My copy came with a tape. I play the tape
while I turn the pages of the book. It's a nice change for the kids.
Get some Indian
corn (any Walmarts) Talk about the colors and compare
with yellow corn.
You can also make
another class out of the Yellow Magic Box
filled
with different ways we see corn. Bring out corn on the cob, canned
corn, canned kernel corn,
canned creamstyled corn, corn chips!,corn tortillas, etc... Yes you
will have to open the cans,
discuss how they differ and heat up for a tasting party.
Let each
child
grind some corn with a medium sized rock. I use a
riverbed rock.
Make butter
using half-n-half. Get a small (clean) peanutbutter
jar..plastic. Add half-n-half and shake!
It will turn into butter!
Make
Cornbread.
Kids help with ingredients and eat with the butter
you made!
Talk about foods
you might have (showing pictures) including pizza and
such since not all the kids
will have turkey. Make the other foods special too.
Make a pumpkin pie.
Let the kids pour, stir and make the dough.
Get 5 small plastic
jars and fill with spices such as sage, cinnamon,
cloves...etc...
Discuss the smells and put on the science table.
