ON THE OCCASION OF THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSING AWAY OF THE GREAT LEADER GENERALISSIMO KIM IL SUNG
10 years have passed since that tragic day in July 1994 when the great leader comrade Generalissimo Kim Il Sung passed away.It seems like only yesterday that this awful event happened,10 short years perharps.In some ways many things have changed since then but in other ways nothing has changed;the Juche idea authored by the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung continues to be the great idea guiding the era of independence forward.
It is difficult to find words to express fully the greatness of the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung and to explain the profound nature of the history of his revolutionary activities.Indeed Korean writer and historian Paek Bong in the preface to the book Benevolent Sun wrote:
'However his virtues are so comprehensive and that we felt felt confused as if sailing on a vast sea aboard a small boat,because of our inablity to describe them all"
The July day in 1994 when I learnt of the passing away of the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung was a truly awful day.I had returned to England on the 2nd July after an extremely succesful visit to the DPRK at the invitation of the Juche Academy.I came back feeling refreshed and full of revolutionary vigour.Our visit had been one of intense discussions at the Academy but also playing snooker and table tennis.We had pleasant memories of walking in central Pyongyang and in Kaesong.I remembered going to Panmumjom and telling a KPA colonel that we hoped the US troops would be swept away from Korea as soon as possible We were deeply impressed by order and cleanliness of the country.Everything seemed perfect.Visiting the Myohang Mountains we stood looking down a river valley with some low rise blocks of flats at the side of the river ,my colleague Shaun Pickford remarked that the DPRK was a socialist peoples paradise of Juche
Above all I remembered seeing the great leader President Kim Il Sung on the TV each day.When he appeared on the screen the tune of the immortal song Long Live Marshal Kim Il Sung would play giving a unique dignity to the president .We saw him meeting different foreign guests and giving on the spot guidance to co operative farms such as the Taesong co operative farm.I remember seeing the Rodong Sinmun on the plane showing a picture of the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung looking at the new ballon irrigation system on a farm.All this showed the solidity of the advanced socialist system centred upon the popular masses created and guided by the great president.
On Saturday 9th of July I was down in Hampshire in the southern part of England.It was a bright summer morning.I was feeling both relaxed and euphoric.I had just made a large pot of tea and walked up the garden.Little did I know the idyllic mood was to be shattered suddenly.At a few minutes to 8am I went in and poured myself a cup of hot tea and turned the Radio on to listen to the BBC Radio 4 news.The pips went,signifying that it was 8am exactly and the announcer abruptly and starkly said that President Kim Il Sung had died.It was particularly upsetting to hear as the BBC announcer showed no respect for the president.I could not believe the news and told myself that it was untrue repeatedly.It seemed to me that it was impossible that the great leader comrade Kim Il Sung would die.
His death was a great loss to the Korean people,as they say the greatest misfortune in the 5,000 history of the Korean nation.I witnessed the unprecendented scences of mass grief of the Korean people.People were not only crying but thumping the ground with their hands and asking the President to come back to life.
Generalissimo Kim Il Sung had led the Korean revolution over 6 decades.He led the armed struggle against the Japanese imperialists and restored the nation.He led the building of a new peoples democratic country carrying out such vital reforms such as land reform which gave land to the hardworking peasants.He led the DPRK in the sacred struggle against the US imperialists in the 1950s crowned the war with the mantle of victory and humilating the corrupt US imperialists who are the common enemy of humanity.
He led the reconstruction of the DPRK and made Pyongyang into
a model city of socialism.He led the industrialization of the DPRK and established first rate social and public services.Food was distributed to people almost free of charge and taxation,the curse of humankind was abolished in 1974.Thus Generalissimo was truly the benevolent father of the Korean people.

He led the work of building the Workers Party of Korea into a steel strong revolutionary party.He fought against revisionism,opportunism,dogmatism and class enemies with all his might.He was a great revolutionary to the last minute of his life.
His loss was not only a loss to the Korean people but to the international revolutionary and communist movement and the world progressive forces fighting against imperialism.Generalissmo Kim Il Sung was the elder statesman of the international communist movement who worked for the unity of that movement.He created the Juche idea which a weapon for liberation.
His ideas are being carried forward actively by the great leader comrade Kim Jong Il who has formulated the Songun revolutionary line.
Today we remember the great leader Generalissimo Kim Il Sung with great reverence.
