GIs’ brutal atrocity

14-year old middle-school students Sim Hyo-sun and Sim Mi-son were hit to death by an armored vehicle of an engineer corps of the 2^nd Division of  the US Army in Hyochon-ri, Yangju County, Gyeonggi Province at around 10:30   AM. on June 13. 2002

According to eyewitnesses, Sergeant Mark Walker’s armored vehicle, which was coming from Paju City, suddenly ran to the sideway to drive over the two schoolgirls who were on their way to a birthday party of their friend.

The incident enraged residents and other south Korean people, who demand stern punishment of the culprit and immediate pullout of the US forces from south Korea.

No day has passed without GIs’ brutal atrocities against the south Koreans for more than half a century since they illegally occupied this land.

US troops, exercising the extraterritorial rights, rape south Korean women, kill and violate people at random.

More resentful is the fact that the crimes of US troops increase in case and in violence year by year.

Witnesses say that the recent killing of two schoolgirls by a GI was not a mistake but an intentional atrocity.

When the armored vehicle was running along the road, the girls stood aside to avoid it. But the armored car approached to kill them.

Nevertheless, the US Forces Korea has not yet made a word of apology but rejected even to transfer the criminal on the plea of the unjust Status of Forces Agreement.

In other countries where the US troops are stationing the GIs are not provided with privileged rights but in south Korea only.

If foreigners commit crimes in other countries, they are tried by laws of the countries.

South Korea, however, transfers even the legal treatment of GI criminals to the US military side in case they commit murderous atrocities. That is why, crimes of US troops increase in south Korea.

It is very natural that the south Korean people struggle for revision or abolition of the unjust SOFA.

As long as the US armed forces remain here, our people cannot live in peace even a day.

The US forces are the greatest obstacle to Korea’s reunification and root cause of all miseries and sufferings of the south Korean people.

The US military presence in south Korea must be terminated unconditionally without delay.
