Founding of the great Songun idea

President Kim Il sung, the eternal sun of Juche, fathered the Songun revolutionary idea of giving prominence to the military affairs and consistently maintained it in the whole course of leading the Korean revolution since he embarked on the road of revolution in his teenage years.

The foundation of Songun revolutionary idea and its materialization is produced in the 60-year-long confrontation with barbarous US and Japanese imperialism that are armed to the teeth and with aggression and wickedness as their nature.

The Korean revolution, which was aimed at national liberation by crushing the Japanese imperialism and realization of national independence, was faced with the enemy that was armed with up-to-date ammunition and mad for colonial domination from the outset.

At the time the Korean forerunners and organizations appealed “petition,”“compromise” and “reform” to the international community and big powers and the doctrine of nonviolence and pacifism were widely circulated throughout the world.

The resistances of Korean people were suppressed by ruthless Japan’s colonial policy and Korea was at a loss which way to go. They didn’t know with what they should wage arms resistance.

At this juncture, President Kim Il Sung clarified the Juche idea which said the Korean revolution should be achieved by the Korean nation themselves as masters. He put forward the revolutionary line of “oppose armed force with armed force, and resist counterrevolutionary violence with revolutionary violence.”

It became great path of the Juche-based Korean revolution. The birth of the idea of giving priority to the military affairs and the Songun revolutionary line was of great significance to be recorded in the Korean revolution and history of world communist movement.

When some Koreans requested the then Soviet Union to build a factory of hand grenade President Kim Il Sung led his comrades to the anti-Japanese armed resistance with the two pistols that were handed over from his father Kim Hyong Jik, an outstanding leader of the anti-Japanese national-liberation movement as an important asset.

At that time the President said the time has come, let us start our march for independence with these two pistols to help us and think that one day they will have multiplied to two thousand and then to twenty thousands.

Since then the President rallied comrades of like mind, organized the anti-Japanese Guerrilla Army by taking away arms of the Japanese imperialism and making weapons by themselves and realized Korea’s liberation through 15-odd years nationwide anti-Japanese struggle.

President Kim Il Sung consistently adhered to and implemented the policy of attaching great importance to the military affairs and the Songun revolutionary line in the whole process of his life.

The President paid primary attention to foundation of powerful regular army and advanced slogan reading “Go All Out For Victory in the War!” during the Korean War (1950-1953). The President put forth the self-defensive military line with contents training the entire army into a cadre army, modernizing the whole army, the arming of the entire people and the fortification of the country and the line of simultaneously carrying on the building up of economy and defense under contemptible abuses of modern revisionism, flunkeyism and dogmatism that were beginning to make its appearance throughout the world after victory of the Korean War. He carried out it unrelentingly with revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and strengthened the KPA as the strongest army in the world that realized the single-hearted unity between the leader and people.

It is attributable to the policy of giving priority to the military affairs and the Songun revolutionary idea of President Kim Il Sung, the peerless brilliant commander, who humbled the US arrogance for the first time in the world during the three-year long Korean War and drove it to downward path and defended the socialist system of Juche and national sovereignty by foiling the US aggressive moves in 40-odd year long-range confrontation with the US.

Some time ago, s senior researcher at Hawaii-based Eastern & Western Study Center commented that the US feared the arming of the north Korean people, the fortification of north Korea and a stronghold dubbing unity between the strong army and the people. It is by no means an accident that even the US Congress assessed the north Korean army is the first in the world which are equipped politically and militarily not only in striking strength and mobility.

President Kim Il Sung bequeathed the policy of attaching great importance to the military affairs, the invincible Korean Army and bulwark of socialism to leader Kim Jong Il.

President Kim Il Sung gave a pistol out of two young Kim Jong Il on July 10 1952, the 58th birthday of his father Kim Hyong Jik, saying that you would better take this pistol as continuation of revolution, keep it well as it was a pistol handed down from three generations of Mangyongdae family, you should not lay down the gun and the gun is a companion guaranteeing victory of the revolution.

And the President handed over the Songun revolutionary idea to the leader and laid solid foundation of army leadership, materializing the cause of army building with the leader when the President inspected the units of the KPA from the 1960s to 1980s.

President Kim Il Sung handed over the supreme commandership of the Korean People’s Army, the highest military position of the country, to leader Kim Jong Il and chairmanship of the DPRK National Defense Commission respectively on December 24, 1991 and April 9, 1993.

This was a historic event telling the great truth of idea of giving priority to the military affairs that the Juche revolutionary cause was started and won victory with guns and will be accomplished with it.

Indeed, President Kim Il Sung’s inheritance of Songun gun to leader Kim Jong Il is a remarkable feats to be registered in immortal history of Juche.

President Kim Il Sung’s foundation of the Songun revolutionary idea, its tradition and the cause of building the army are military and political miracles, the first of its kind in history of building of revolutionary armed force of the working class. It performed great contributions to accomplishment of the Juche revolutionary cause and victorious advance of the independent cause of humankind.

Indeed, the august name of President Kim Il Sung will shine with history of humankind as the initiator of the great Songun revolutionary idea.

Development of the great Songun politics

Leader Kim Jong Il, sun of the 21st century, developed the unique Songun politics in keeping with requirements of the times and opened up the Songun era on the basis of the policy of attaching great importance to the military affairs that fathered by President Kim Il Sung to cope with turbulent political military situation at the end of the 20th century.

The socialism was collapsed in former Soviet Union and other east European countries and a great change was taken place in the relations of the world political forces. Taking it as good advantage, the US-led reactionary forces of imperialism made frantic efforts to isolate and stifle north Korea, a bulwark of socialism.

The world reactionaries said that fate of north Korea is hanging in the balance and “its early collapse” was bandied about as an accomplished fact. It was on the crossroad of defending socialism or abandonment, safeguarding national sovereignty or fate of slavery.

At this crucial juncture, leader Kim Jong Il, brilliant commander of Mt. Baekdu,declared to the world that “Don’t expect any change from me.” He continued his long journey of the Songun revolutionary leadership with firm volition to accomplish the revolution with gun. In the process the Songun politics has been developed to the full stage that accelerate defending of socialism, building of a rich and prosperous country and the accomplishment of the cause of national reunification, making the Korean People’s Army the backbone of revolution.

As the leader already formulated, the Songun politics means giving priority to military affairs and making the Korean People’s Army the backbone of revolution, so as to beef up the driving force of revolution and vigorously promote national defense and socialist construction as a whole. <>The Songun politics enjoys absolute support from the progressive humanity. It is because it is a lucid political mode against imperialism to thoroughly advocates and defends national independence and the independent cause of country, nation and humankind. It is a political mode of embodying the requirements of Juche idea and theory that the ideological consciousness play decisive role in revolutionary struggle.

Leader Kim Jong Il traversed rigorous path at the head of the north Korean people, pursuing the Songun politics. He inspected more than 580 units of the Korean People’s Army and the routine accounted for about 126,000Kms during the last decade.

The leader frustrated the US imperialists’ move to strangle north Korea and safeguarded stronghold of socialism and north Korea’s sovereignty and dignity to conclude the “Arduous March” and forced march well known in the world. He also made springboard for building a powerful and prosperous nation, opened a turning phase of national reunification and made headway of the global independent cause.

A foreign expert on Korean affairs wrote in his article that three miracles have been performed in north Korea during the last decade. First, north Korea, which was nearly eliminated from the international arena, has distinguished itself as a state representing socialism, second, the north Korean people have overcome death and launched out into the building of a great prosperous powerful nation, third, the United States and the Western countries that tried to destroy north Korea in the past held out a hand of reconciliation to the country. The Voice of America said it is undeniable that in the world only north Korea stands face to face with the United States. North Korea tries to put down Washington that nobody dares to stand against it.

Now north Korea is highlighted in the world as country of the Songun politics. North Korea is an example and standard-bearer of all countries in the world which struggle against all sorts of injustice and war and for independence and justice.

Present era is shining as Kim Jong Il Songun era and proud era of accomplishment of the anti-imperialism for independence. The Songun idea and the Songun revolutionary cause of Juche that founded and successfully advanced by President Kim Il Sung is shining more brilliantly by leader Kim Jong Il. The 21st century will prosper as Kim Jong Il Songun era.
