1968-1969 - THE DREAM CURSE, THE CREATION OF ADAM, AND QUENTIN'S GHOST
Barnabas and Julia's relationship goes through a dramatic change during this storyline. They are wary of each other as this time period begins, but as the Adam experiment unfolds, we see their trust in each other grow. We also know that Barnabas is aware that Julia is in love with him because he says as much to Dr. Lang. And despite his friendship for her, Barnabas continues to manipulate her feelings for him to his own advantage as well as always putting his own interests first. Julia's love for Barnabas is very evident in this storyline as she helps and protects him, even unselfishly keeping her promise to keep him from rising again as a vampire. She also hints at her feelings both to Barnabas and others, including Stokes and Cassandra, and it is obvious that other people recognize her feelings as well. But it is not until she is missing at the hands of another vampire that Barnabas is forced to admit to himself and to Willie that Julia means a great deal to him. They go into the 1897 storyline as very close friends with complete trust in each other. |

They meet again later, and Barnabas finds it hard to believe that Vicki could be in love with someone who is dead (Peter). When Julia snidely mentions that Barnabas loves Josette, he says, "It is not like you to mention her name." Julia tells him that she will make Vicki forget whatever she remembers about him. "I will do that for you, Barnabas. You have my promise." |

Who could finally perhaps find the love you were determined he would never see." Julia assures her that she will do everything she can to expose and stop Cassandra. Later, as Julia examines a seemingly dead Adam, he begins to gasp for air. Julia realizes what this means and says in a voice choked with pain, "Barnabas - I buried him alive!" ![]() EPISODE 570: This is a pivotal episode in the Barnabas- Julia relationship, and one in which many fans believe Barnabas realizes for the first time that his feelings for Julia go beyond friendship. Julia has disappeared and Barnabas has been frantically searching for her, knowing that she has been with the vampire Tom Jennings. He and Willie discuss how important it is to find Jennings, and Barnabas talks about Adam's threats. Willie laughs at him, "Oh, Barnabas, you're talking about all the people except the one that concerns you the most. The experiment, Vicki, Adam, the family - I know you care about all those people. But the one you don't mention much is Julia- and she's the one you need the most." Barnabas agrees because without her, they cannot do the experiment. "You just don't get what I'm saying," Willie says. "You're acting like some man whose secretary is missing and I know that's how you don't feel. You're more than just worried about Julia." "What do you want me to admit, Willie," Barnabas finally says as he paces the room. "That I care for Julia more than I appear to? All right, I will admit it. She's been a part of my life for so long, a very important part. I must find her." Barnabas finds Julia unconscious in the mausoleum and cries her name. He returns to the Old House and carries her in his arms over the threshold (!) and puts her down in a chair in the drawing room. He calls her name and begs, "Stay with me, Julia..." He is desperate to keep her alive and promises to help her. He insists on going to Tom's coffin to stake him although it is not yet dawn. |

You're alive." |
