DR. JOHN MWIBANDA WESONGA - Lecturer, Department of Horticulture, JKUAT

I was born on May 5^th 1969 to the late Mr. Vincent Wekesa Wesonga (1908-1983) and Maricella Namikoye (1927-1997). I am the second last born in my family. I have two brothers, Felix Wesonga and David Machani and three sisters Gladys Machuma, Mary Nangfunda and Timina Nasimiyu. I am married with two girls. My wife is called Alice Nanjala Nasieku Simiyu. Her names may sound complex due to mixed parentage of Maasai and Bukusu (Luhya). My girls are called Velma Nafula (elder) and Pramila (younger). Velma was born on the 16^th August 1995 while Pramila was born on the 25^th November 1996.

I am currently employed by the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. I teach Crop Protection and related courses in the Department of Horticulture. In addition I am a Hall warden, a position that involves ensuring a good living atmosphere in the halls of residence for students. I am also the current Examinations officer and therefore oversee the administration of examinations in the department. Finally, I am an academic advisor of the Second Year Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Horticulture students. Besides JKUAT duties, I am active member of the Horticultural Association of Kenya (HAK) where I am involved in the publicity work.
