CURRENTLY IN OKAYAM A,  JAPAN UNTIL SEPTEMBER 25TH 2007

I am currently at the University of Okayama, Japan on Matsumae Fellowship. I am undertaking research on use of capillary wicks for melon production. This is a simple inexpensive system of producing crops. It is sustainable because no energy is required to convey the water while at the same time water is conveyed in response to crop needs hence limited deep percolation takes place. The amount of growth media used is so limited that growing crops with this system is possible within a kitchen space.
