A Black Man's Vision Of Heaven

You wouldn't believe the dream I had last night
Black people everywhere, what a beautiful sight
We all had African and Islamic names
And I heard As Salaam-Alaikum over and over again
People were smilin' and huggin' we must've been free
And though I could see them, they couldn't see me
Brothers had dreadlocks, and waves, and low-cut fades
With no pants saggin', I was truly amazed!
Sisters went back to their essence with African dresses
And all-natural hairstyles that were truly impressive
The children were neat, well-dressed, and well-groomed
And full of "yes sirs", "yes maams", and"I love yous"
Under a sun so bright things seemed so right
No jealousy, envy, or anger in sight
Everything was free and in great abundance
This was truly a place I could fall in love with
Fruit fell from the trees,
summer breeze blew through the leaves
Don't let me wake up
from this dream promise me, God please!
I even dropped to my knees and begged to get in
He said, "I gave you this vision
as motivation from sin"
Then the alarm went off in this American hell
A constant reminder that things ain't so well
'Cause life as a Black man is truly a struggle
Dodgin' pitfalls and perilous potholes of trouble
So I bowed my head in silent prayer
This vision of Heaven makes me wanna go there
But the only way to bask in His Precious Sight
Is if you dedicate your life to livin' right.
