I have climbed walls of great pyramids
and touched the sun
I have pressed my back
to the bottoms of the four great great
oceans
and you berate me
I who have borne many burdens
and given birth to many great nations
am continuously and endlessly berated
by you
a woman of color ... royalty
strength

you call me bitch
but He looks down and calls me
beauty
you call me nigger
but He pronounced it Nubian
you call me whore
but He persistently makes me whole
you call me dumb
but He tells me to remain diligent
you call me ignorant
but He calls me intelligent
you even call me wicked
when the Lord knows He made me
wise
you say I'm cursed with darkness
but He blesses me with His light
you call me uncivilized
but He made me the center of
the mother of civilization
on and on ... for years and years
forever
will you berate me
and why?
when you yourself
have come from me
and to think that
you are ...
that you exist
because of me
to not know me
is to have no knowledge
of yourself
so learn of me
to know thyself
search your own soul
find your own self
for when you find you
and you will ...
then you will also find
me
diligent, intelligent and wise
full of life and of light
the essence and epitome of civilization
as we know it
