The color of my skin

Is it the color of my eyes.
Is it the color of my skin.
Is it the thickness of my thighs.
Or is it just because you
don't know the person within.

You don't even know my name,
what I like to do
Or my favorite game,

You just judge me from what you see
But I can tell you don't know the real me.

I'm in love with poetry
The words that rhyme
to describe me
is poetry

But you wouldn't know that
Because you judge me
from what you see.

My favorite music is
rap, hip-hop and r&b
But once again, you wouldn't know that
cuz' you judge me
from what you see.

When I was younger my parents told me
Watch who you talk to
You turn your back and
they will slice you,
they don't know you
But they don't like you
They don't care about you
But they don't even know you

Because I'm from a different nation
Because I'm a different creation
Everywhere I go, it's like
I'm on an evaluation
It's always, always an accusation

This is a frustrating situation
Of all your domination
Towards our creation
But don't take away my education.

If it wasn't for Martin Luther King
I would be accused for everything
Because of the color,
The color of my skin
Nobody wants to know the person within

Everywhere I go
people want to know
What am I doing here
And I always get that hated stare.

Just because the color of my skin
It's like I just committed a sin
But it hurts
Because people were treated like this
This took place in history
That's why this really hurts me.

People were killed
Because they were black
They were hated
Just because of that

This is my life's depiction
This ain't no fiction
Please don't make it a restriction
Just to live my life's depiction

The color of my skin
Is a beautiful thing
Sometimes it's hard to win
But I will always LOVE
The color of my skin
