ERRORS IN THE DAVINCI CODE

ERRORS IN THE DOCTRINE OF CANON

  • The Orthodox Doctrine of the Canon:

Men spoke born along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20-21).

The Revelation was written down (e.g., Revelation 1:3).

The message was received by those spiritually prepared (1 Corinthians 14:37).

  • Men born along by the Holy Spirit (e.g. the Apostles or their associates) did not write the Gnostic gospels.
  • By the second century the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were accepted for the Canon.
  • By the second century the Gnostic gospels were rejected for the Canon.
  • Brown is wrong in saying that pressure from Constantine through the Council of Nicea caused the Gnostic gospels to be rejected.

    They had already been rejected.

  • Brown misrepresents the teachings of the Gnostic gospels and the Biblical Gospels.

They do not teach that Jesus treated Mary Magdalene like His wife.

The location of Jesus’ supposed kiss on Mary Magdalene’s body, according to the Gospel of Philip 63:33-36, is not provided by the existent manuscript.

    The Biblical Epistles, Romans 16:16; 1 Corinthians 16:20; 2 Corinthians 13:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:26; and 1 Peter 5:14, encourage a holy kiss of greeting.

In the language of Gospel of Philip 63:34, Coptic, “companion” can mean a wife or spiritual sister (Darrell L. Bock, Breaking the DaVinci Code (BDC), Uncorrected Proof, Nashville: Thomas Nelson, Inc., 2004, page 31).

  • ERRORS IN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST

  • Jesus is God (John 1:1-3; 5:18; Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:8a; Revelation 19:11-16).
  • DaVinci’s “Lord’s Supper” is not a photograph of the Biblical event.
  • Brown is wrong in saying that John, in the “Lord’s Supper,” is Mary Magdalene since DaVinci drew effeminate men in his sketches.
  • Brown is wrong in saying that, if Jesus was married, He could not be Divine.

Jesus had a fully functional human body along with His Divine nature.

God, the Holy Spirit, was Jesus’ father and Mary was His mother and yet Jesus had a Divine nature.

  • Brown is wrong in saying that the Biblical culture disallows a ministry for single persons.

Jesus taught in Matthew 19:10-12 that unmarried persons can promote the Kingdom of Heaven.

Men and women lived together in the Jewish community of Qumran and refrained from marriage. The men in this community were considered very spiritual. They wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls (BDC, pages 46-47).

The Apostle Paul taught in 1 Corinthians 7:8, 25-28, 32-35, 38 that virgins can fully concern themselves with the Lord’s affairs.

  • Brown is wrong in saying that Mary Magdalene was married.

In Matthew 27:55-56, the married women are associated with prominent males. If Mary Magdalene had been married to Jesus, she would have been described as Mary Magdalene, wife of Jesus. But she is described only with respect to her city of origin, Magdala, on the West bank of the Sea of Galilee.

In John 19:26-27, on the cross Jesus made provisions for His mother, Mary. Mary Magdalene was also present at the cross . . . but Christ made no provisions for her. Certainly He would have done so had she been His wife.

  • Brown is wrong in saying Constantine and the Counsel of Nicea bestowed Divinity on Jesus.

His Divinity was taught by Scripture (above) and believed by Christians.

Jesus’ Divinity was established hundreds of years earlier in the New Testament books.

The council developed a creed that described its understanding of the Divinity of Christ.
