Viola Mine |
The Viola Mine near Nicholia Idaho - Fun place to explore. Other areas include the Charcoal Kilns, Hahn townsite and the many mines on Big Windy Peak. |

These kilns are located about 10 miles west of Nicholia. Charcoal was produced here to fuel the lead smelter in Smelter Gulch behind the town of Nicholia. |

About 1000 feet into the Elizabeth Mine. No - that light at the end of the tunnel is not a train - it is the outside world. |

PLEASE... |
Do NOT enter any old mine workings - it is very dangerous!!! Many of these old workings are in various states of decay while others are active and are being worked by their claim owners. Please respect these pieces of history. Myself, Geocities, Yahoo nor anybody else will be responsible if you are injured while going in places where you should not be going. With that said, feel free to hike around and take plenty of pictures. Please keep an eye on children and pets. Enjoy your stay and leave the area as clean - if not cleaner than you found it. |
