On 12 June 1967, Singapore and Brunei signed a Currency Interchangeability Agreement between the two countries. Under the agreement, each country undertakes to accept the currency issued by the other and to exchange them, at par and without charge, into their own currency. In other words, the two currencies are "customary tender" when circulating in the country in which they are not legal tender. The agreement also facilitates bilateral trade and tourism and it also played a central role in the good relations between the two countries. On 12 June 2007 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Agreement and both respective Central Banks (Monetary Authority of Singapore and Brunei Currency and Monetary Board) released one $20 polymer each to commemorate this special occasion. | |||
