Chapter 26

*Character of Paige was created by Justine*

Emilie Anne Parker walked into the Rideaux Shopping Center in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada as the sunlight beamed through the skylights of the shopping center. She was on her own since the tour started, although two bodyguards followed her every move, about three metres behind her. The guys had been given instructions to go over some dance moves and then business arrangements, with their cherographers and record companies, so she had decided to go out for the afternoon by herself. The air was cold and crisp that day, as she wondered through the chilly mall. She pushed her strawberry blond hair off her pale face, and turned back to see her bodyguard baby-sitters named Trent and Derek walking causally through the mall.

She stopped at a Suzy Shier clothing store and went in to look at some clothes. Trent and Derek stood watch outside the store, as she headed straight to some floral dresses that were hung on the opposite wall. The one that caught her eye was knee-length, with no sleeves, and was a white background, with purple and yellow, small butterflies on top of it. She loved it. She grabbed a size 15 and headed back into the dressing room to try her dress on. She was almost in the dressing room, when she heard a shriek beside her. She looked over to see a girl who was about 15, staring at her.

"Omigod! It's you! Nicky's girlfriend!" she shrieked loudly, and Emilie smiled.

"Hi," Emilie said causally, and continued into the dressing room. Trent and Derek had enetered the store by then and had rushed to Emilie's side.

"Em, are you okay?" Trent asked her and she nodded. She tried the dress on quick and loved the way it shoved off her curves. She bought it quickly, as the girl followed her out of the store and into the next store she entered. "Emilie? Can I ask you something?" the girl asked her and Emilie turned around.

"Yeah?" Emilie asked fustrated. She usually didn't care about fans, but this girl seemed more annoying then the previous girls and she really wanted some relaxation time before the guys and her went clubbing that night. It was their night off and she intended to enjoy it fully, as the guys did.

"Are you dating Nicky still?" she shrieked and Emilie nodded. "What about Sheri White? She's been saying that you and Nick split up and stuff."

"Sheri White is a liar," Emilie answered. "I'm sorry. I have to go."

"Bye!" the girl cried, as Emilie walked out of the store because everyone was staring at her.

"No peace huh Em?" Trent told her and she nodded fustrated.

"Yeah I know," Emilie answered. "I just wanted to grab some new clothes for the tour and tonight and I can't even go shopping! Geez!"

"Now, you understand how fustrated the guys get," Derek commented and Emilie nodded. "Okay guys, I am going to try to shop in this store," Emilie replied and she walked into Reitmans. She walked back towards some nice sundresses and decided she didn't really fancy any of them. She then saw some jean shorts and found one that was in her size. She grabbed them and two shirts to go with them. She quickly paid for them and headed back out of the store. "I'm done!"

"You've only bought like four things," Trent informed her.

"I know, I am not a big shopper," Emilie replied. "How about some lunch? I am starved."

"Sure," Derek answered, as they headed towards the food court. She saw McDonalds and quickly headed over there. She saw about three young girls behind the counter and she prayed they didn't recognize her.

"Can I help you?" the one with bright red hair asked, as she looked up at Emilie. "Wow! It's Nick girlfriend! Hi Emilie! How are you?"

"Hey, good," Emilie replied with a relaxed smile. At least this fan wasn't hyperventilating. "How are you?"

"Tired," she replied with a smile. "I just want to be off work."

"What time do you get off?" Emilie asked her.

"About four," she answered. "So, what can I get for you?"

"How about a Crispy Chicken?" Emilie suggested and she asked Trent and Derek what they wanted. They ordered, as Emilie gave her money to the cashier. "How has the concert been going so far?" she asked Emilie.

"Really well," Emilie replied. "What's your name anyway?"

"I'm Jeanne," she answered. "I'm going to the concert! I can't wait." Emilie smiled at her, as she took their lunch and walked over to a table. They all sat down, as they ate in peace. "So, Em, how does it feel to be tour with the guys?" Derek asked her.

"Pretty cool," Emilie replied. "You know, I am glad that I got to go!"

"Yeah we are too since Nick and Sheri-," Trent began and Emilie dropped her chicken. "Nick and Sheri what?" Emilie cried, as Trent turned bright red.

"Nick and Sheri broke up," Derek ended the sentence and Emilie looked at him.

"When?" Emilie wanted to know.

"About a year ago," Derek said. "Nick and Sheri were together for about two years before you."

"What? He said he never had a girlfriend until me," Emilie replied and Trent cringed.

"I'm sorry Em," Trent apologized. "It was none of our business. We assumed you knew."

"Knew about their relationship?" Emilie asked and they both nodded. She sighed at how much trouble Sheri was causing and she just wished Nick would fess up with the truth. First, they were best friends and now they had gone out. What was next? She got up and threw out the rest of her chicken burger, not hungry anymore. Hot tears formed in her eyes again, as she thought back to when Nick had informed her she was the only girl he had ever loved. That was a lie. This made her wonder what else Nick had lied about. She ran towards the washroom as Trent and Derek quickly followed her. She burst into the washroom and let the cold water run over her hands, and splashed on her eyes. "Are you okay?" asked a familiar voice and Emilie turned to see her best friend Ariale Johanssen standing there. "Ariale! Omigoodness! What are you doing here?" Emilie shrieked, as she she hugged her.

"Girl, I came to see you!" Ariale answered, pushing her brown hair away from her face. "Why are you crying?"

"Long story," Emilie replied. "Nick and I sure have been tested the last few days."

"Why? What happened?" Ariale asked her, as they walked out of the washroom together. "Well, Nick kissed his long-time best friend Sheri White last weekend in Ruskin," Emilie replied. "We have a fight and all the guys were on my side, until he told off Sheri. Well, I was just informed by the BSB's bodyguards that Sheri and Nick dated for two years! Two years Ariale! And Nick told me that I was the only girl he ever loved! He is such a liar!"

"Emilie wow! I have missed a lot!" Ariale replied, as she said hello to Derek and Trent. "Are you done shopping? Let's go back to the motel!"

"Who are you here with Ariale?" Emilie asked her, as Derek and Trent got the limo for them.

"Well, it was a little surprise for you that I came down for a few shows!" Ariale said. "Nick called me yesterday and said that I should come down to see you!"

"Really? That was sweet of him," Emilie said thoughtfully. "So, you are on tour with us for a while?" "Yes!" Ariale laughed. "And you and I dorm mates for a few days." Emilie smiled, glad her best friend was with her for a few days...

Justin Timberlake walked into the motel restaurant after a quick jog he had with JC and Nick. They had broke for a break, as he saw Nick and Brian ordering some lunch near the southside of the restaurant. He waved to them, as he sat down at a table all by himself. He needed some to think for himself, and remembered back to when he had spoken to his mother on the phone before. His little brothers, Jonathan and Steven, were growing up fast and he missed them a lot. He heard some sniffling and he looked up to see a beautiful, striking girl with long glossy black, shoulder-length hair, amazing aqua eyes that resembled the ocean on a beautiful sunshine day, and an healthy body. She was wearing a sweet sundress that was violet in colour. He noticed she was crying and just continued to stare at her. She was average looking, but there was something about her that appealed to him.

"Are you okay?" Justin asked her, before he could he knew what he was saying.

"Yes, thank you," she answered softly, as she sipped her cream soda. "I'm sorry. I'm just a little down today."

"Tell me about it," Justin replied. "I miss my family."

"Oh me too," she answered. "You can join me if you want." "Okay thanks," Justin said, not believing he was doing this. He had never done this before in his life.

"I'm Paige Justine Lower," she held out her hand with a flourish, as Justin took it in his.

"Justine? Cool! I'm Justin Timberlake," Justin introduced himself, as Paige looked at him closely because he looked awfully familiar. "Wait! Wow! Justin from 'N Sync?" Paige said excitedly, as a beautiful smile cascaded across her lightened face.

"Yeah it's me," Justin answered smugly, hoping it wasn't a fan who knew about him, then he did.

"Cool, I love your music!" Paige replied. "Don't worry. I didn't even know you guys were in town or anything."

"Oh good," Justin smiled as the waitress came over to order. "Anyway, what would you like Paige? It's on me."

"Let's see," Paige glanced over the menu. "I'll have a julienne salad and a small order of onion rings please. How about you Justin?"

"I'll have a burger and fries please," Justin ordered, and the waitress left quickly. "So, Paige, are you here with your friends?"

"No, I'm here alone," Paige replied nonchantly. "My snobbish aunt wanted to get rid of me for the weekend, so she sent me to Quebec to get me out her wonderful apartment. So, here I am by myself in a huge city, with nothing to do!"

"Really? That's harsh!" Justin commented. "I miss my brothers and parents. My mom just had a baby about seven months ago named Steven."

"Oh really? That's so sweet!" Paige smiled. "My mom was pregnant until the crash-." He saw sadness overcome her eyes.

"What crash Paige?" Justin wanted to know, as Paige looked away.

"My whole family died in a plane crash about five months ago," Paige replied. "My mom, my stepdad, my little brother, and even my dog. They were travelling to visit me at my boarding school in France. Now, I am living with dearl old Aunt Vivien. I hate her! She's so horrible."

"I'm so sorry Paige," Justin said softly, as she clasped her hand to comfort her. "Thanks," Paige attempted a smile. "Anyway, I'm working hard every day to get the horrible memory out of my head. My aunt sent me to some therapist that is like a thousand dollars an hour. I went, but I find my own grieving process has helped me. Anyway, wow, this feels good talking to someone about it."

"No problem," Justin smiled, as he saw Emilie and Ariale walk into the restaurant. "There's Nick's girlfriend Emilie and her friend Ariale. Mind if they join us?"

"Sure! That would be cool!" Paige smiled, as Justin waved Emilie over. "Hi Justin and hi!" Emilie smiled at Paige. "You know Ariale right?"

"Yeah hey," Justin replied. "This is Paige. Paige, this is Em and Ariale."

"Hi, nice to meet you," Paige smiled at them. "Aren't you Nick Carter's girlfriend?"

"Yeah," Emilie said. "I see Nick and Brian over there. I'm going to go say hi. You guys have a nice lunch." She winked at Justin, as Ariale and her headed over to Nick and Brian who were basically devouring hamburgers and fries. "Wow hey Ariale!" Brian said, smiling warmly at her. They had dated for two months back in the winter, but had broken up. Brian was now happily dating Leanne, who was back in California working on a new movie.

"Hi Bri!" Ariale smiled back, as he gave her a big hug. "Hi Nick!"

"Hi Ariale, glad you could make it," Nick replied, as he turned to Emilie. "Hey. How was shopping?"

"Pretty good," Emilie replied shortly. She was still angry that he had lied to her.

"What's wrong Em?" Nick asked her. "Go talk! Ariale and I have to catch up," Brian shooed them away, as Nick told up and followed Emilie towards the outside patio.

"Nick, how come you dated Sheri for two years and never told me?" Emilie snapped as soon as they were outside. "I've had it with all this lying! You have to be straight with me or I am going to explode!"

"Whoa Em," Nick shook his head. "Who told you I dated Sheri for two years?"

"Derek and Trent," Emilie replied angrily. "Don't deny it Nick! I know it's true!" "Emilie, no, I didn't date Sheri," Nick answered back. "We were only friends. I swear. Besides, if we were supposedly dating, it was one-sided and that was Sheri's side."

"But, why would Trent and Derek say that?" Emilie snapped.

"Because Trent is Sheri's cousin," Nick replied. "We will do anything for his cousin. I'm sorry Em." "Oh Nick, no I am," Emilie cried, as she couldn't believe how cruel she had been. "I was just so horrible to you and I had no reason to be. Oh Nick. Why am I being so mean lately? I am so sorry."

"Oh Em," Nick said softly, as he wiped her tear away. "It's okay. I love you so much. You have to know that. You are the first person I have loved. Please always remember that."

"Nick, I know that," Emilie replied, as tears flowed down her cheeks. "I love you too." "Em, come here," Nick said and he enveloped her in a big hug. "Did I tell you how beautiful you look today?"

"Nick, I went up like three dress sizes," Emilie replied, pointing at her shopping bag with the dress. "I used to be a size 7, now I am a 15! I have gained so much weight Nick. I feel so ugly."

"Emilie, I never noticed," Nick told her honestly. "I think you are still beautiful."

"But Nick, I am going back to how big I was before!" Emilie cried. "I don't want to go back to that weight again. Never ever." "Em, you've been under a lot of stress lately," Nick comforted her. "But Nick, I have gained 30 pounds back of the 70 I lost," Emilie said. "What can I do? I don't want to go back to two hundred pounds. That would be so horrible Nick."

"Em, you are beautiful just the way you are!" Nick answered, as Emilie shook her head.

"Nick, it's horrible," Emilie replied, as more tears formed in her eyes. "It's horrible to be fat. I feel so down about myself, as if nobody wants to talk to me because I am fat. Oh Nick, I don't want to go back to that way again."

"Emilie, your body is not what makes me love you," Nick said softly, as he wiped a tear from her cheek. "The day I saw you, your inner personality shone through the physical. Look Em, the guys and I love you because of your sweetness and your good heart. Your weight has nothing to with how much everyone around you loves you. You could gain that weight back Em and I would still love you. You have to understand that. I love you for the inside. I don't care about the outside at all."

"Oh Nick I know," Emilie whispered back. "That's why I love you as well, but I haven't exercised in weeks."

"Well, would you like me to exercise with you?" Nick suggested. "If that would make you feel better. I'm here for you Em."

"That would be cool Nick," Emilie said. "But, aren't you too tired to go?"

"No, not really!" Nick replied with a smile. "Em, just remember what I said, okay?" Emilie nodded, as she saw AJ and Brian appear at the door.

"Em, Ariale wants you to show her the pool," Brian informed her. "We have practice Frack."

"Yeah I know," Nick replied, as Emilie and him stood up. "Remember what I said Em?" He gave her a quick kiss and she attempted a smile at Brian and AJ, as she walked through the patio doors to see Ariale. "What's wrong with her?" AJ wanted to know. "Is she okay?"

"Man, Em thinks she's ugly," Nick answered shaking his head. "I don't know what I can do to convince her she's so beautiful. I mean, she is so unhappy she's gained 30 pounds. Frankly, I never noticed. Do you guys?"

"Not really," Brian replied. "We haven't seen her in a while though."

"Girls are so wierd sometimes," AJ said. "I mean Em still looks the same."

"Yeah, but guys she's so unhappy," Nick said. "Is there anything I do to help her?"

"Just be there for her Nick," Brian replied, as they walked into the restaurant. "Just listen to her." "Yeah, but Bri, I hate seeing her so down!" Nick replied, as he saw Justin and some girl standing up from their table. "Maybe we should do something to cheer her up," AJ suggested. "Any ideas?"

"How about we take her and Ariale out for a surprise night on the town?" Brian replied and Nick considered the idea.

"Yeah, that sounds good," Nick nodded, as he saw Justin catch up with them. "Hey guys!" Justin beamed. "I just met the most amazing girl. Her name is Paige and she's wonderful."

"Cool Curly," AJ said. "Is she coming to the concert?"

"Yeah I hope so," Justin answered, as he became happier then he ever had before on tour.

*******************

ilie looked at herself in the butterfly dress from this morning and thought it looked okay. She debated whether she should wear or not, as Ariale came out of the washroom, all dressed up for the night as well. She was wearing a maroon-colored dress that was long and flowing, and her long hair was up in an elegant up-sweep.

"Em! You look gorgeous!" Ariale replied. "Thanks Ari," Emilie answered with a half smile. "Not as good as you! Wow, all the guys are going to go wild when they see you!"

"I hope so!" Ariale laughed. "I am looking for a man tonight!" They heard a soft knock on the door, and Ariale opened the door, to reveal Nick, AJ, Brian, Lance, Joey, JC, and Justin standing at the door.

"Ladies, are you ready to go?" AJ asked them in a fake accent.

"In a moment!" Ariale replied, as she shut the door in their face. "Em, what about your hair?"

"I think I am going to leave it the way it is," Emilie answered back.

"Em, come on," Ariale insisted, as they knocked again. "Guys! Get a life! Geez!"

"What should I do?" Emilie wanted to know.

"I'll put it up for you," Ariale answered, as she opened the door. "Fine! Come in! But, stay away from the washroom!" "Okay!" they all teased her. Withing ten minutes, Ariale had done Emilie's hair and her make-up, and they came out of the washroom.

"Whoa! You both look awesome!" Joey said, smiling at them. "And you are-? Sorry, we've never met.""I'm Ariale, Emilie's best friend," Ariale introduced herself. "I think you're the only person I have never met.

"Ariale, when did you get here?" JC wanted to know, as Justin's mystery date Paige appeared at the door. She was elegantly dressed in a Calvin Klein white dress.Nick "Hi everyone, Hi Justin," she said with a bright smile.Nick "Everyone, this is Paige!" Justin said cheerfully. "Hi Paige!" they all said in unison. "Okay let's get going," Lance suggested, and they headed out the door. Everyone went ahead, as JC and Ariale seemed to be hitting it off right Nick stayed back with Emilie.

"Hey, are you feeling better?" Nick asked her as they approached the elevator.

"Yeah thanks," Emilie replied. "You look great Nick."

"So do you Em," Nick answered back with a smile. "We have a very special night planned for you and Ariale."

"Really? That was really nice of you guys to think of us!" Emilie smiled back, as Nick smiled at her. "So? We were thinking of going to a resturant called Maison Blanche? How does that sound?" "Great Nick," Emilie replied, as they stepped onto the elevator. She noticed everyone was kind of quiet, and she wished everyone could be having a fun time. They got off the elevator and were immediately met by 10 bodyguards because there were fans everywhere. Paige looked overwhelmed at all the people and stuck close to Justin, so she wouldn't be at harm by all the fans. "Wow, there are so many people here," Paige commented, as they walked out of the motel doors to where a white stretch limo was along with about 150 fans. "Aww!" the fans shrieked, as the bodyguards tried hard to get the fans away. They practically jumped into the limo, and were off towards Maison Blanche.  "So, Ariale, what have you been up to lately?" JC asked her. "Well, I have been preparing for university," replied Ariale with a smile. "I got into the science program I wanted to, which hold hopefully lead me to veternarian school." "Now, we'll have someone to take our pets to," Lance commented and Ariale smiled. "We should get a pet for the tourbus," suggested AJ. "Maybe one of those funky chinquila dogs or something." "Yeah, we can name it Bone!" Brian teased AJ. "No seriously man," AJ replied. "Come on. It will be so cute." "I'm all for it," Joey said and they all agreed. Emilie looked out the window to see a pet store. "Hey, there's a pet shop!" Emilie said excitedly. "How about before the concert tomorrow?" suggested Nick and she said sure...

Their dinner had been wonderful, as Joey, Lance, and Brian had gone off by themselves for the rest of the evening, which left JC, Justin, Nick, Brian, Paige, Ariale, and Emilie to themselves. They arrived at a popular dance club in Quebec City called Jaguar. As soon as they arrived at the club, Justin and Paige left the group and headed off to get to know one another.  "Wow! This is hot," Ariale commented, as they entered the club. "You know? I have never been to a dance club in my life." She looked around to see people of every culture dancing in every type of outfit you could imagine. "Seriously?" JC asked her and she nodded. "How come?" "Because I was probably so busy with school, that I never got out of the house to do anything!" she replied with a smile. "Anyway, I am happy to be here now! Oh Em, did I tell you?! You will die! Remember Brandon? Well, he supposedly he now living in Toronto and all his girlfriends dumped him!" "He deserves it after the way he treated you at prom," AJ commented and JC looked at her. "Why? What did he do?" JC wanted to know. "Well, it's a long story," Ariale began. "I just wish it never would have happened." "Oh no problem," JC said quickly, hoping to cover up her embarrassment.

"Thanks," she said greatfully, as the song Lauryn Hill's song "That Thing" blasted out of the speakers. "Lauryn Hill is awesome!" commented Emilie, as she grabbed Nick's hand. "Want to dance Romeo?" "Sure Em," Nick smiled at her. They headed towards where Paige and Justin were dancing, and they started to dance.  "What's up with Emilie?" JC asked Ariale. "She's been quiet all night." "I have no idea," Ariale replied shrugging her shoulders. "So, how's the tour going?" "Really good actually," AJ answered. "Want a drink?" "Sure," Ariale replied. "Please. A Coke should be okay. What about you JC?" "I'll have a Coke too," replied JC and AJ nodded. "How old are you?" Ariale asked JC. "I'm sorry. I'm not up on how old any of you guys are." "I'm 23," replied JC with a smile. "And you?" "I'm still 18," replied Ariale with a sigh. "Everyone else here is like older then me." "Not Justin," JC replied. "He's 18 as well." "Oh really?" Ariale replied. "How old is his girlfriend?" "I have no idea," JC said. "I think they just met today or something. So, nothing new?" "Not really," Ariale said, as AJ came back with their Cokes. "Thanks AJ." "You're welcome Hon," AJ said with a smile. "How about a dance Ariale?" "Sure Bone! I'll show you all my improved dance moves!" Ariale laughed and they headed onto the dance floor. She turned to see JC standing by himself and felt bad. "What about JC?" "He'll be okay," AJ replied. "So, how's my beautiful friend since last time we saw each other? How's Oceane?" "Well, I'm fine, but I'm not sure about Oceane," Ariale replied, as on came 'N Sync's "Tearin' Up My Heart". "Good song! I haven't seen Oceane since graduation. What's up with all you guys?" "Well, the whole Nick and Emilie thing was pretty hard on all of us," AJ said. "I'm glad their back together." "Yeah, Emilie has been upset lately," Ariale observed looking at her. "I wonder what's wrong with her!"

"I have no idea," AJ replied. Meanwhile, Paige and Justin were getting to know one another in the crowded dance club. Justin looked at her sweet smile and decided he really liked her. "So, Paige, are you having fun tonight?" Justin asked her and she beamed athim"Of course I am Justin!" Paige answered brightly. "You know, tonight has been wonderful. I haven't had a night like this in a while." "When are you going back to New York City?" Justin asked her. "Probably this Friday," Paige replied. "Aunt Vi wants me home so she can introduce me to all her friend's sons. I think they are all so immature and are wealthy snobs! I just couldn't bear the thought of dating one of those wretched jerks." "So, your relationships are arranged?" Justin asked. "Sometimes," replied Paige. "I have to live with her for another eight months until I receive my trust fund from my parents." "That must be a lonesome life," Justin commented and Paige nodded. "It's hard! I miss my family so much," Paige replied, as tears streamed down her face. "But Justin, it's better not to think of the past. I have tried hard to get on with my life and I'm sure I will eventually." "Paige, you'll never forget them," Justin informed her. "They will always be in your heart." Paige smiled, as the song changed to a slow ballad. It was 'N Sync's "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You". "This is a beautiful song!" Paige whispered, as Justin pulled her close. "Who sings it?" "We do," Justin replied and Paige nodded.

**************************************************
"Em? Want a Coke?" Nick asked her. "Sure Nick," Emilie replied, as she saw JC standing by himself near the bar. "Why's JC by himself? I'm going to see him."

"Okay," Nick replied. "I'm order us some drinks."

"Hey JC," Emilie said with a smile. "How're you doing?"

"I'm okay," JC smiled back. "How about you?"

"I'm great," Emilie said. "Come and stand with Nick and I. We're just having some sodas."

"Thanks," JC said. "Where did Brian, Lance, and Joey go? Do you know?"

"I think they are going to come here later," Emilie replied, as Nick handed her the soda. "Thanks sweetie."

"You're welcome," Nick replied. "Actually, I think they are here now JC because I hear lots of screaming coming from over there."  "It's most likely them," JC nodded, as her eyes seemed to focus on something and Emilie followed his gaze to where AJ and Ariale were dancing away...
