In my experience fish can be eaten some 7 days after they are caught and then of course there is dried fish which the ancient Egyptians will tell you can make fish last up to 2 or 3 years without losing its flavour.  Also, from a microbiological point of view, preserved foods such as dried fish can be SAFER TO EAT than that of a FRESH nature.

Thought it important to point this out.  Egyptians, should you know any, are cunning and forewarned is forearmed.
