Separatist leaders arrested
Two Christian separatist leaders in Indonesia's Maluku islands have been detained
ahead of celebrations to mark a failed independence bid 52 years ago.
A police spokeswoman said yesterday that dozens of armed policemen picked up
Alex Manuputty and Samuel Waileruny at their homes on Wednesday.
They were questioned over alleged plans to hoist banned separatist flags in provincial
capital Ambon on April 25. Such action would test the strength of a recent peace deal
ending three years of fighting.
