President orders renovation of gutted Maluku Governor office
JAKARTA (JP): President Megawati Soekarnoputri instructed on Monday the
renovation of the Maluku governor's office, which was gutted by fire in an arson attack
in Ambon last Wednesday, following a bombing incident that killed four people and
injuredat least 60 others.
Megawati also asked the security authorities to solve the bombing case and find the
culprits, said Coordinating Minister for Social and Welfare affairs Jusuf Kalla.
"The destruction of government and state property must not be tolerated," Jusuf said.
Jusuf is the peace broker for the various fighting camps in Maluku. The Malino II
agreement, signed in February, ended three years of bloody violence in the province.
Maluku Governor Saleh Latuconsina said that the fire cost some Rp 15 billion in
material damage, excluding priceless documents and files. (edt)
