1 May 2002 21:3:29 WIB
TEMPO Interaktif, Jakarta: The National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) has
recommended that a military state of emergency be imposed in Maluku.
After meeting with President Megawati at the State Palace on Wednesday (1/5), the
Lemhanas Governor Ermaya Suradinata said that the civilian state of emergency
status was no longer effective.
He said that, according to research by Lemhanas, now that the level of conflicts has
increased, the civilian state of emergency status is not effective anymore.
"The President has accepted what Lemhanas has recommended," said Suradinata,
"but she will discuss the matter with other related institutions before making a
decision as to whether a military state of emergency should be imposed". (Dede
