Our Spring Vacation - 2001
Calico Ghost Town, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas and Death Valley National Park!

We spent a morning wandering around Calico Ghost Town. It is a pretty interesting place to visit. We enjoyed the tour of the old silver mine and got a kick out of the sign written by M. Hubbard! = - )

The Hoover Dam in Nevada was our next stop.

The Colorado River was an amazing site, but our favorite part of our visit to Hoover Dam was the behind-the-scenes tour. We were able to walk in the tunnels and see the power plant.

The 3 oldest kids walked over to Arizona while we were visiting the dam. The Arizona/Nevada border is on the top of Hoover Dam! = - )

We spent the night in Las Vegas at Circus Circus. Thankfully we had a smoke-free room, but that was about all! SO many, many people smoke in Las Vegas and we all feel very blessed to live in California!!!! The Volcano eruption at The Mirage had smoke and flames that didn't bother our lungs and we enjoyed the show.

The best part of our spring vacation was our visit to Death Valley National Park!

Matthew played with his cars in the biggest sandbox in North America, the girls climbed on the rocks and David enjoyed throwing rocks!

Badwater is the lowest point below sea-level in the Western Hemisphere and it is salty!! We are standing on what used to be a lake 20,000 years ago - it dried up and now it is a salt lake.

The sun was SO bright on all that salt (Matthew had to cover his eyes!) Angelica is holding a piece of the salt that was everywhere!

We have returned to tent camping and campground dinners! We took a break from tent camping while Matthew was little, but we are now looking forward to lots of camping trips in the future.

Time for bed and a night under the stars.
