I
first met Maybelle at the original msn classic Chips
board in June , 1996. She had already completed all the
levels and posted that she was beginning to go back over
some of the levels to increase her time on them. She
posted this asking if any of us had any tips that may
help her in this endeavor. Well... what a novel idea! As
a result of that post, individual members started posting
their scores on various levels. and so the quest
began, and now you know why Maybelle is the Charter
Chipster's Firestarter. That first post of hers about
working on bringing up her total score is really what
brought us all together in a joint effort. We became a
real family out here in Cyberspace, and we all have
Mombelle to thank for that.
Now ,
I'll let Maybelle tell it the way she saw it . ;-)
After
successfully raising two daughters, exploring most every
corner of the world, devoting a due share of my time and
energy towards good and charitable deeds and taking my
pursuit of jazz piano to the limits of my ability, I
said, "Hmm, what now?" My brother had the
answer.,as he hauled his old computer to my house and
said , "Here Sis, this will keep you busy!"
That was 2 years ago and like anyone who is reading this,
I was drawn in like a magnet! As I comfortably stroll
through the sixth decade of life, I now find myself
mulling over the complexities of e-mail, the internet,
MSN, software, and hardware while most of my RL friends
are fretting over where to go for lunch today! I wouldn't
have missed any of this for the world! The nicest
surprise for me was the opportunity to meet such special
new friends! As I sampled through the Best of
Entertainment Pack games, Chip's Challenge became my
immediate favorite. Upon completion, I sought out kindred
souls on the internet.
It was a hot
July night in 1996 here in California , I mustered up my
courage and dared to reveal my humble Chip's Challenge
score on the old Windows Entertainment Pack board, with
the prophetic challenge "Can anyone beat my score
and if so, how?" I held my breath and waited ...and
waited...nothing but silence! Then out of nowhere, came
the reply from LimoJohn, " I have been chasing your
score for 2 weeks now!" What joy..another Chips
aficionado heard from! The next question was, "Do
you suppose a total score of 6,000,000 points is
possible?" Our wise Far Thinker, LimoJohn, pondered
and calculated the possibilities. As we started comparing
various level scores, daring Christina chimed in that she
would like to jump in too! Kathy, Alice and Barbara
joined the fray, and soon our brave little band of MSN
Charter Chipsters was pulling together to the summit.
Kathy began to diligently track our scores, producing a
monthly scorecard and Alice, got so inspired, she set her
talents to producing the now famous Chip's Plus web site!
With the recent and welcome addition of our two new
speedsters extraordinaire, Ruben and Kevin, we feel more
confident than ever that the summit is at last in sight!
It is my
belief that a large part of our dedication to this Quest
is due to the shared comraderie and friendship and just
plain respect for one another that has developed over the
past two years. It's been said by some nay-sayers that
6,000,000 points is an impossible goal! We choose to
think otherwise. Our Alice, Keeper of the Flame as well
as The Scribe of the Tribe , put it this way in answer to
one of those non-believers:
The
Quest is not for such as he,
So
lacking in humility
That
he would dare to call us fools
For
gamely breaking all the rules
And
playing on, when others quit,
Because
we've got the sense and wit
To
take the game to awesome heights
Undreamed
by those with lower sights.
We're
Charter Chipsters, through and through
What
he can't think of, we will do!
~~~~~~~
And LimoJohn
says, "Success comes in cans, not can'ts. In
virtually every opportunity or situation you encounter,
it is illogical, unreasonable and irrational to use the
word can't. Only a fool would underestimate the can do of
this group."
not
that we're counting or anything, but... . (Since 6-03-98) :)
