Entry for August 25, 2007 Later that day
John and I had a date night. It was wonderful. We were decked out in our black Chopper shirts and jeans and hopped on the Honda Shadow and off we went. I am so glad the kids are finally at an age that they can survive staying home alone for a few hours. We headed toward Big Sandy off to find a unique place to eat. We saw nothing there with potential so we headed 10 more miles East and ended up in Gladewater. We drove around the historical area and didnt find much more than a Bodacious BBQ and a Dairy Queen. We ended up at a parking lot of a liquor store and I went in to ask if there was any place in Grand Saline worthwhile to eat that is unique to the town. The guys in there said yeah go to the Pea Patch on Hwy 80 just one block past the road we had turned on. We back tracked and found the old white large home turned restraunt. It has alot of history to the building and it was a neat place. We were seated in what would have been a front room with a fire place and very high ceilings. We were told the special was fried shrimp and a ribeye steak with baked potatoes or fries and a salad for $9.95. We both had the special of course. They served us the largest glasses of Iced Tea I have ever seen. John was in a teasing fun mood and we had a blast. For dessert we asked about their cheescake. On the sign outside it said Cheesecake and Restaurant. She said her boss' husband just made this fabulous peanut butter and jelly cheesecake. We said we would try it. John and I split it since he can't have too much cheesecake and we weren't hungry after that meal. I am glad we ordered it. It was amazing. The cheesecake was mainly PB cheesecake with a sweetened creamcheese top that had jelly swirled in it. It was wonderful. I think it made John hyper. On the way home we stopped by Big Sandy ( liquor capitol of our area). We got a small bottle of wine and a six pack for John. I had a backpack to put it in. I swear it weighed 40lbs and we had 30 miles to get home. It was a beautiful evening with the wind on our faces and enjoying the speed of 60 miles an hour. It was fun. I can't wait until next date night.
