Tradition

"Dad, want to play catch?"
"No son, I'm too busy."
"But Dad, I brought your glove."
"Son, can't you see I'm busy!"

As he hung his head,
and slowly mooped away,
hurting from the sting of rejection,
but Dad is too busy!

Then later in school,
"Dad, can you come to the game?"
"No son, I have work to do."
A young man hurting, plays the game!

Off to college, the young man goes.
"Dad, can we go fishing on spring break"?
"No son, I can't let my business go."
"Now a man, hurting, goes fishing alone!"

With a wife and a son of his own,
his son asks; "Dad,can we play catch?"
He replies, "No son", as tradition repeats.
Now his son, hurting, hangs his head and walks away!

Sometimes we forget the important things in life.
A fathers love and attention mean everything to a child,
and a childs love and respect mean everything to a father.
Lets promise to never put anything of less importance in the way!
