Kelvin Grove School in c1965
The former Kelvin Grove School, built in 1893, as the Manawatu Car Club clubrooms. The photo was taken in 1965, shortly before it was dismantled to allow the Kelvin Grove subdivision to begin on its grounds. However, it was never rebuilt. Although it was originally a wooden building, by this time its exterior had been plastered. The classroom that is in the foreground (built in 1890) was transferred from Stoney Creek (Whakarongo) School in 1898 to help alleviate an overcrowding problem. The school playground is now covered by Anakiwa Street.
The roof of the Kelvin Grove Hall is visible in the background. Vera McLennan-Boman took this photo.
