I truly believe that we should strive to make this world a better place. Protect the environment. Be nice to other people. Donate money to organizations that promote these things. LookForAlternatives.
How about making a list of things that prevent us from saving the world, or a list of things that actively harm the world.
Other things: If you cannot think of ways to save the world, earn lots of money and give it to those that know how to save the world. Somebody has to do something, so if it is not you, why not enable others.
That reminds me of ViridianDesign.
I heartily recommend the book "the sceptical environmentalist: Measuring the Real State of the World" by Bjørn Lomborg. He says that yes, the situation is bad when comparing it to an idea world. However, looking at the real data, things have been getting better all the time. There is no reason for pessimism, despair, or panic. He cites thousands of examples where statistics have been misused -- including references. An amazing book: ISBN 0-521-80447-7.
