ThreadMode

ThreadMode happens whenever several people get to edit pages in a wiki: People add their stuff to the existing text, without rewriting the text. Other people add replies, a discussion ensues. In analogy to Usenet, such a discussion is called a thread, and the page is said to be in ThreadMode.

I find that signed comments make it harder to refactor a page. It is much easier to just add yet another comment. And then the pages goes into ThreadMode. Therefore, avoid signing contributions.

On the other hand, people seem to derive some sort of reward from signed contributions. The best compromise seems to be a collective signature. Like this page has one.

Eventually, pages in ThreadMode should be refactored into DocumentMode.
