ANSWER: The following are some of the better known myths -- all of which are untrue:
1. The battle of Perryville was the single bloodiest day of the entire Civil War.
2. Don Carlos Buell and Braxton Bragg were brothers-in-law and they spent the night together in the same house before the battle of Perryville.
3. The state of Kentucky was neutral through the entire Civil War.
4. If you were in favor of slavery, you supported the Confederacy. If you were against slavery, you supported the Union side.
5. Kentucky, in keeping with the April 1861 answer by Governor Magoffin to the Secretary of War, did not provide troops or money to the Union cause during the war.
6. There were no major battles or Civil War actions in Kentucky during the Civil War. All of the major war actions took place east of the Allegheny mountains.
All of the above statements and many more are completely false.
