FAQ #8. Many people view those who believed in slavery as being for the South and those who were opposed to slavery as being for the Union. Was that true in Kentucky?

ANSWER: No.

Don't let that stereotype about slavery and "side" in the Civil War confuse your knowledge about Kentucky and the war. Whether or not a Kentuckian believed in and supported slavery in Kentucky did not necessarily dictate which side of the national division crisis they would support. There were many on the States Rights' side of the question who did not support slavery. There were many who actively supported slavery who were just as ardent in their support of preserving the Union and the cause of the United States against the Confederacy.
