INDONESIA: Human rights trials criticised
The Human Rights Watch annual report has singled out the government of Indonesia
for failing to address human rights abuses by the military. It says human rights
workers have faced increased persecution especially when they sought to investigate
abuses in regions like Aceh and Papua. The Director of the Indonesia Project for the
International Crisis Group in Jakarta goes further, saying the prosecution of crimes
committed in East Timor is appalling:
