Indonesian police seize bomb chemicals
Indonesian police have found 250 kilograms of illegally-imported ammonium nitrate, a
chemical used in fertilizer that can also be used to make bombs.
Police spokesman Agus Sugianto says the 10 sacks of fertilizer were found in an
abandoned van in the Central Sulawesi, and its believed they were smuggled in from
Malaysia.
He says the fertilizer is often used in fish-baiting bombs by local fishermen, and
added police were seeking the owner of the car for questioning.
The find came after a tip off from residents suspicious of a car abandoned near a
checkpoint in western Palu.
Central Sulawesi has been plagued by sectarian violence between Muslims and
Christians.
