No proof Christmas Eve bomber linked to Bali
Indonesian police say a man who confessed to involvement in a series of bomb
attacks on Indonesian churches on Christmas Eve in 2000 is not linked to the Bali
bombing.
Abdul Jabar has admitted he helped a key suspect in the Bali bombing to buy bomb
equipment in 2000 and obtain a Jakarta identity card.
A police spokesman says there is no proof Jabar was involved in the Bali bombing
which killed more than 190 people at Kuta in October last year.
Jabar, who had been wanted on suspicion of involvement in several bombings, turned
himself in to police on Thursday.
He was taken to Jakarta on Sunday for further investigation into his alleged
involvement in the Christmas Eve bombings in 2000.
The bombs were delivered to 38 churches or priests in 11 cities nationwide.
Nineteen people were killed in the blasts, which were suspected to be the work of
regional terror group Jemaah Islamiyah.
