Central Sulawesi Police to extend security operation in Poso
JAKARTA (JP): Central Sulawesi Police would extend its security operation to
maintain peace in Poso for another six months, an official said on Sunday.
"The second stage of the operation began on Jan. 1," said Central Sulawesi Police
Chief Brig. Gen. Taufiq Ridha said.
He said the extension of the operation was consistent with the National Police's
operational guidelines for 2003.
"The restoration of security in Poso is part of an overall operation by the Indonesian
Police this year," Taufiq said.
According to him, the extension of the security operation in Poso aims to maintain
the normal security situation and to help the local government complete its
rehabilitation program in various areas.
Poso has experienced sectarian conflict for about three years. Security condition in
the area has been improving in recent months.
