Indonesia marks Christmas in peace
JAKARTA (JP): Christians marked peaceful Christmas Wednesday amid tight
security at churches across the country.
In Jakarta, where some 300,000 police and military officers were deployed to
safeguard churches during Chirstmas celebration, worshippers attended masses
peacefully.
Fellow Christians in other areas, including in Bali and Makassar where bombs
exploded recently, also enjoyed similar peaceful celebration, Antara reported.
They underwent strict security measures before entering churches.
On Chirstmas Eve in 2000, bombs rocked dozens of churches and buildings in several
cities, leaving 19 people dead.
