A
review of St John's climate show
that freezing nights linger late into the year. It is therefore proposed to block sunlight into the house for only 4 months of the year. Starting April 21st.
The house is at a latitude of 34 deg 32 minutes North, Say 35dg.
Therefore at the time of the solar equinox (March 21st & Sept 21st ) the sun is at an elevation of 90-35=55 dg above the horizon.
At the summer solstice the sun would be 22.5dg higher i.e. 77.5
On April 21st the sun reaches an angle of 60dg above the horizon.
Eave length would therefore be the tan of 30dg or 0.57.
So windows with an eave at a height of 10ft would have to protrude 5.7ft to block sunlight from April 21st through Aug 21st.
