As discussed in the glazing page, the  windows of the house are the largest heat loss problem and reducing this heat loss through the winter nights is critical to the passive heating performance.

Blinds or shutters are the best method of reducing heat loss. We are not yet selecting products but we are considering duel honeycomb type blinds. Like those illustrated to the left.   Click here for more details.

The reduction of this heat loss is so critical that we intend to install automated blind controls that will be under computer control so that all blinds will automatically descend around sun set in the winter or if outside temperatures drop extremely during the spring and fall. Of course the system will also have manual over rides.

There are several manufactures of automated blind controls and computerized home control systems are now on the market at reasonable prices (More on this annon)
