Prologue

The rain seemed like a sheet of water as it hit her Honda Civic.  The windshield wipers didn’t do any good, even if they were on high.  The rain blinded the yellow divider, making the road look like a black mirror

She couldn’t see more than 10 feet in front of her but she paid no attention, for her tears almost made her blind.  She kept wiping her face with her forearm, but the tears kept flowing.  Giving up, she resorted to blasting the music and banging on the steering wheel in frustration.  Her sobs overcame the music, screaming and cursing in between breaths.
She saw the turn and proceeded in her blind rage, to press the gas pedal instead of the brakes.  The water seemed like ice as the car spun out.  She screamed, grabbing the wheel and tried to gain control of the car.  She looked down at the wheel and failed to see the speed bump.  Her screams echoed through the street as her car hit the bump and flipped over.  The only sound the street heard was breaking glass and metal crunching.

Joey sat on the couch in his living room, headphones on, nodding his head to the beat.  He thought he heard ringing, but thought it was for the added effect of the song.  When he heard the ring for the fifth time, he lifted the headphones from his ears and heard his cordless ringing next to him.  He picked up the phone.

“Hello?… Yes it is… yes she does… What?!… Where?… OK, I’ll be right there!”

Throwing down the phone, he grabbed his keys from the table and ran out of the house.
