The Academy stage was packed as the people were talking to each other in their seats. AJ and his mother were given front row seats next to Marnie. The lights flickered as the people became quiet and Marnie took center stage with a roaring applause. “Thank you everyone. And thank you for coming to the Orlando Academy for Junior Performing Arts rendition of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Tonight, we have a very special guest. He started in the Academy, and left when he had the opportunity to start his own career. It was because of him that I got involved here, and because of him that many young and talented performers have also started here. He’s a very good friend of mine. Would you please welcome Mr. Alex ‘AJ’ McLean!” AJ stood up and waved to the crowd. “Now, everyone, let’s us learn the story of Romeo and Juliet.” Marnie took a seat next to AJ and Denise as the play began. The curtain closed as the people sat down from a standing ovation. Marnie and AJ went backstage to greet the other performers. AJ was signing autographs when Marnie came to him with a boy about 15 years old. “Alex, there’s someone I’d like you to meet,” Marnie put his arm around the boy. “This is James Gonzalez a.k.a. Romeo. James, this is AJ.” AJ shook James’ hand. “You were a great Romeo, James. Couldn’t have done it better myself.” “Thanks. Marnie said you played Romeo way back then. That’s what helped me out.” “That means a lot to me man. Thanks.” “Well, I better go. My parents are waiting for me,” James shook AJ’s hand. “Thanks for inspiring me.” “No problem,” AJ said as he watched James run to his parents. “That kid’s got talent.” “Kinda reminds you of someone huh.” AJ smiled. “Yup, it does. I guess history does repeat itself.” Marnie smiled and sighed. “It sure does.” The End Part V Contents E-mail the author |
