Miss Mandelbaum's Third Grade Class

Greetings from Tulsa!

We are a third grade class from Monte Cassino Elementary school in
Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Right in the middle of the United States!  Monte
Cassino is a private Catholic school that has about 1,000 kids between
the preschool, elementary, and middle school buildings.  Our class
consists of 19 kids - 11 girls and 8 boys.  My name is Miss Mandelbaum
and I am the teacher and we also have Ms. Clausing, who is our
assistant.

Our community is a great one!  Tulsa is a nice, "small" city.  Our
population is under 500,000.  We are located in the plains of the United
States, however Tulsa has a lot of hills.  It is very green here with
many big trees and lots of plants.  Tulsa's nickname is "green country."
The Arkansas River runs through the middle of downtown Tulsa and we
have many fun parks too.  All of my class live in houses and get to
school by their parents.  Because we are a private school, we don't have
any buses.

Tulsa has a great history.  One of our thematic units in third grade is
called Tulsa A to Z.  We learned a lot of interesting facts about Tulsa
in this unit.  Oil was discovered in Tulsa in 1901 and became the "Oil
Capital of the World".  Because of this discovery many famous people and
business men traveled to Tulsa to make it their home.  We have a number
of landmarks that are unique to Tulsa because of the oil discovery.

Hope you enjoyed hearing about our community!  By the way, we named our
groundhog Pee-Wee and we decided that he did see his shadow on Sunday!

Talk to you soon,
