Lisa's Thoughts on Gentle Mothering![]() Gentle mothering means genuinely caring for your child instead of simply raising them. It means listening to your child to best determine his needs rather than rigidly following some kind of "method" that claims to know what every child needs, as if all children were the same. To me, the verse that says to "train up a child in the way he should go" means to follow your child's unique temperament and personality in determining the best way to guide and teach him. Why do you feel that gentle mothering is so important? This day in time, many parents are so busy and want the "quick fix" that gets the children quiet and out of the way as soon as possible so they can get on with their lives. Many of us were parented in the detachment method that was popular a few decades ago and are now reaping the emotional consequences. Speaking for myself, I don't want my son to experience the same emotional void I felt growing up. Why do you feel that God wants you to parent this way? My son was a wonderful miraculous surprise, born after the doctors said we could not conceive without medical intervention. He is a gift from God, and I am convinced that God wants me to cherish him and show him every day how special he is to us and to Him. Parenthood is a 24/7 job, and if God saw fit to bless us with this little creation, we can do no less than give all of the best of ourselves to him. Lisa's TestimonyI was raised in a Christian home and received Christ as my Savior at the age of 7. Being in church all my life, I already knew Jesus, but that was when I made it "official" -- went up front, got baptized.
